No worries. I've looked and looked, and just can't find anything really helpful. I've search Afterdawn and what not, as well.

I've got a dual-layer burner, guess I could go buy some discs. But now you scared me with your "damaging the optics" comment.



Guess I'll just pony up and buy the games that are DVD9.



It's just a well stated theory that lower quality media = greater chance of damage to your laser, especially with the early model slimline, like mine.

This is the answer to my problem, after hours of searching. How to rebuild an "overweight" iso.

EDIT: Successfully rebuilt a DVD9 image, burned and played. With this method, any game is burnable.

My image was originally ~9gb, and after following the guide above it was ~3.27gb.

Simply marvelous.

Now I'm on a quest to figure out a way to use this method to rebuild a PC .iso. I'm sure the same concept applies, but the software may be different.

I'm also looking into acquiring a dedicated HD for my PS2 - I'm assuming an external connected via the USB port on the front of my PSTwo would suffice. Would be much quicker than constantly burning DVDs.

I know there are HDD loaders for PS2 games. That's about the extent of my helpful knowledge. Not sure if the USB ports will actually allow a HDD to be plugged in or not.

Yes, burning does take an investment of time and discs, but every time I look at my cardboard box of ps2 games I have to giggle. I think when I get my new phone I'll catalog them, because looking through them to see if I've grabbed a game already has become something beyond tedious.

I know there is a way to use a HDD through USB. When I find the guide, I'll post it of course. I'm not concerned with disc usage, it's just laziness that compels me to find a faster way.

Also the way my girl handles the discs (facedown is a no-no) I'm not sure how long many of these will last, scratch-free. Using a HDD to store the games would be a sure-fire way to ensure long-life.

I buy clamshell cases for mine. Given the chance again, I'd probably try to find some other way to catalog them, but it solved two problems for me: Protects each disc individually, and I can write the title on the case, rather than the disc, so no ink will bleed through over the years.

But yeah, burning 4gigs at 8x is definitely a time sink, it's why I tend to do mine in bulk. Sit down with an RPG some morning and just bust 10+ discs out, check them, and then delete them because I'm running with an 80 gig HDD atm :P.

I've got 2x250gb HDD. Between my girl's music and my games, I run about 75gb free at any given time.

hdd loaders are a much more expensive route to go. that's the way i originally wanted to go, because my xbox 1 was that way. the ps2 wouldn't be as subtle though, and the hdd definitely wouldn't fit inside.
