Quake IV (GNU/Linux) [Archive] - ForumsHQ

this game rocks Doom 3's world. first of all the most noticable thing compared to Doom 3 is the fact that there was a lot more care taken to the quality of the game, most specifically the TEXTURES... Quake IV is VERY clean compared to Doom 3 all around. The environment to Quake IV is a lot more interesting and the sounds are better. also you can use vehicles which adds to the idea of some very interesting mods and or games based on Quake IV's engine. it's just a beautiful game that Doom 3 should have been (in 2002).

in my opinion quake has always been > doom... but thats just my opinion

AS long as there are lights in Quake ill be ok. Doom you pretty much played in the dark. When you did happen to stumble upon a light fixture something always ended up breaking it and back in the dark you went. I have to upgrade my video card before I can play quake 4 on the PC.

I'd love the .iso, but I'll probably go find it anyhow - been waiting forever for Q4 to come out.

Erek is right, Quake audio is the best! I run my computer though a pretty hefty home sterio, and the audio is pretty spooky at times!
I see Erek's game is running at 12fps - that does not sound like fun.
and, by default, php.ini is set to 2mb file uploads.

well that 12 fps thing is due to many things... wine takes away from gaming performance and also i had hit swap fairly good by uncompressing the nearly 3GB file multiple times and then trying to send it over AIM (aim does something weird like reading it or encrypting it or something and it took like 5-8minutes til aim stopped being busy)... so my operating system's resources and cache stuff was probably pretty hammered and etc... usually i get around 60FPS in the game... i don't know howto benchmark Quake IV atm.. so... here's an older revisoin of the engine Doom 3 1.3... 1024x768 @ High Quality
