Items, Monsters, Messages, and Shops
1 - 2,147,483,647.
Classes, Races, and Spells
1 - 32,767
Rooms
1 - 2,147,483,647 for the map and the room (in fact, this might be a rare situation where you could use up to 4,294,967,295 because an AUTOINC isn't used for the key type).
Textblocks
1 - 2,147,483,647 (but here again as with Rooms, an AUTOINC isn't used so you may be able to use up to 4,294,967,295).
Using unsigned values depends less on Btrieve, in so far as Rooms and Textblocks go, and more on how MMUD is working with them. If it's treating the value as signed it might puke on huge values (which, when casted to a signed type, would be negative numbers, not numbers >= 2,147,483,648).

I'm not sure if using zero is wise, but yeah, the value would work. I'm going to guess though that there's probably comparions to zero in the code that might hiccup if you tried to use that value. =)
