OK, first off..to Plat..damn man, thats alot of info...it read alot like a movie critic sounds when goin on about a movie..it was a good read tho man :)

Agree with ya 100% on the gnome druids :) Everyone raves on a gobby druid..but no way, I tried one out once..didn't feel right the first 20 levs.so i scrapped him..gotta go with the gnome man..and i'll tell ya, in a fresh realm, racing for the lims, that picklocks is a lifesaver on the island :D

Anyway....

Personally, I'm not a big fan of classes or races. I've always been a fan of skill-based systems, where you're free to shape your character into whatever you want him to be, without any limitations (assuming you're willing to pay the price).

Actually Rust, myself, and a few friends, have been working on a similar mud..not an adaptation of majormud, but a whole new mud..i've been recruiting coders to help with it, seein as how we have no funds for such a venture ;) Anyway, its basically skill based..everythign for the games laid out and ready to go (just waitin on code now) hehe, it sure plays out good on paper too ;)

Just a plug and a request for c/c++ coders ;)

"And I've always considered this as a very viable option. Having everyone be human, and create more classes to cover just about anything people would want to be (with the appropriate exp penalties of course)"

I hate myself for this, but I'm gonna have to agree with you Rust. Seeing that I already have quests setup on Sinister Urge that will give abilities to races/classes that don't normally have them, ie: dwarf warriors dont have picklocks or stealth, but upon completion of the quest, they could earn one or the other, I'm actually considering your idea. Putting in a second mud, and leaving all the base races, but have them all have identical stats. The only reason for multiple races would just be add some variety instead of everyone being "Human". No race would be better than the other, and the only ability granted for any of them would be that they wouldn't have to use a torch or lantern or anything like that. Thinking about it, don't know if I'll do it. Don't know if I'd have it be edited like Sinister is already, or just minor edits, like my BEST edits, or what. There have been tons of great ideas comin out lately, things I'd like to see.

Heh.. you hate yourself for agreeing with me? Wierdo....

One thing you can do if you're up for it is set up a basic class -- theives. Make them be say... 25%. Then, give values to all abilities.. (keep in mind that everyone will be "human" aka "base race") Sort of like:

combat 1 -- -10%

combat 3 -- +15%

combat 4 -- +35%

combat 5 -- +50%

hps 5-8 -- +25%

hps 6-9 -- +45%

hps 7-10 -- +65%

night vision -- +50%

etc..... you can assign a value to just about anything..

Then, have people tell you want they want to be and you edit that class in. :) Yeah, it's a lot of work in the beginning, but everyone will play what they want to play, considering they're willing to pay with exp for it. :) That's as close to customization as you're gonna get.

That would be kinda cool. I might do it. I dunno yet. Depends if I can get help setting up a 2nd realm, the last time I tried I fucked everything up.
