Best races and classes.. [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Rust In Peace »

Ok.. a theoretical question of sorts.. If you were going to cut the list of available races and classes in half, which races and classes would you keep (or throw out)? Or, if you have a race or class that is reasonable and you think should be included, post the stats for it.

So lets say 5-6 races and 7 classes..

Darkelf, Dwarf, Neko, Goblin, Halforc.

Ranger, Mage, Druid, Priest, Ninja, Mystic, Bard.

I picked those cause:

Darkelves are awesome for almost anything.

Dwarf is good for priests (unless you need sneaking)

Neko is good for a lot.

Goblin is great for mages.

Halforc is good if you want 0% exp on a class, they have good stats.

Ranger, Mage, Druid, Priest, Ninja, Mystic, Bard.

Ranger cause he's a sneaking warrior (edit-minus the hps, of course), I prefer Rangers over Paladins.

The three magic-3 classes, of course.

Ninja cause I'm bias and they are my favorite class.

Mystics cause they rock.

Bard cause they are great for parties.

You can swap the bard with warrior/witchie/paladin if you want your realm to have more than one tank-like class.

Goblin = 115int, 100 health

Darkelf = 120int, 90 health

5 int at that level is worthless. 10 health for a *non-healing* class is a godsend.

edit: 10 extra health is good for any class, but espesially for a *non-healing* *low hp* class that mages are. On a related topic -- goblins are my choice for all magic-3's, unless I don't on pvp'ing, then my priests are dwarves.

Stats:

70 str, 125 agil, 100 health, 115 int, 100 will, 100 charm.

Racial stealth, night vision.

That's all you need for a mage. I already have darkelf down for being great for almost anything, so I won't dispute that one, and elves just dont have enough health for me. I always run goblin mages. 70 str is more than enough. 125 agil is more than enough. 100 health is just enough. 115 int is perfect. 100 will is enough. 100 charm is enough. You have to put minimal CP into agil and int to get your char going strong in the early levels, and it doesn't take much to max out your main attributes. It's all an opinion thing, darkelves and elves are great for mages too.

Here's my list..

Races:

Dwarf

Half-orc

Dark-elf

Goblin

Gnome

Classes:

Warrior

Paladin

Ranger

Priest

Mage

Bard

Missionary (increase combat to 3, possibly increase exp to be on par with rangers)

OR

Thief (increase combat to 3, increase exp to around warrior/witchie table)

Reasoning? I've picked races without any of the whored abilities (track/see hidden).. and classes that are usually picked on boards and aren't mystics or ninjas. (I dislike the increased crits ability). Yes, I know druids are missing, but I wanted to cover all bases and still fit the 7 class quota, so something had to go..

You can swap the bard with warrior/witchie/paladin if you want your realm to have more than one tank-like class.

I'm not planning on one in the near future, this was mostly just something that I'd thought of here at work. Personally, my ideal realm wouldn't have any mystics, ninjas and gaunts.

Mini-rant:

Majormud's class selection isn't very balanced or effective, imo. All classes should have a worthy role in a party and be effective on their own and be sort of unique in their own way. Many classes don't fit some or all of those requirements.

And yes, I realize that this is a "multiplayer" game, and it's designed for teamwork and interdependency. But with the introduction of high (read: time consuming) exp tables, and mud-wide megamud scripting, most people opt for a class that can solo, parties and fun be damned!

who cares about races...the only ones everybody seems to use are delf and neko so why don't you just keep them and decide rest later, heh

as for classes theres three styles of characters, fighters, casters and sneakers, now theres combo's that can make or break the game (mystics n rangers)

I dont care about races at all because it isn't the race that makes the char it's the player that matters, and how you do your stats and gear that you have. Race is allmost pointless the only thing it does is inhibit certain usage of race/class combo's. Now onto the fun part

Warrior-fighter

Ranger-sneaker/fighter/caster

Priest-caster

Mage/Druid(or just 1 or both)-caster

Ninja-sneaker/caster

Paladin-Fighter/caster

Now these classes are the basics of everything you need, i didn't say missy or gypsy for the sneaker combo's because they aren't fighters, they are sneaking casters ;). Also you'll notice between all these combo's the fundamentals of mmud are covered, leather, robes and plate. also every element of mmud is covered, short of only a few things. I did with out bards because they to me are useless, How the fuck you going to get powers from some pretty boy fuck singing a song?:afire1: does it emotionally make you better? No the whole concept of bards is cool but I just don't see them being anything superior. I mean of course in the fantasy text, not mmud, because you can have some sick bards w/ the right gear, and back in the day the Laen.....drool.

[sidenote]

thank you rust for the contribution to the mmb forums, nice to see something other them flames, enjoy mmud.

I love nekos. I left them out on purpose:

I've picked races without any of the whored abilities (track/see hidden)..

I think they unbalance the game too much, giving classes abilities they shouldn't have. Why do you think that 80% of all non-combat1 (read: not magic3) characters are neko? They give stealth(ie bs in pvp!), they have good strength and agility. Only downside to them is their low health, but that's often offset by the class' high hps, healing or just the person's desire to have tracking. :D
