Thinking outside the square and going beyond familiar cars like the Boss 429s, Super Bees etc. there are probably some hot rides that get overlooked or have been forgotten. Maybe some models from the 50s, or ones from the smog era that could be quick once the pollution controls are dumped? :cool:

Ford Mavericks and Plymouth Volaries can be turned into real power cars if you get the smog gear off of them. Even with the Slant 6 on the Plymouth and the 250 Straight 6 in the mavericks, they can be juiced up a little or you can replace their engines and go for total power.

Yeah, the Plymouth Volare Road Runner and Dodge Aspen R/T twins of 1976-80 had the slant six as the base engine. You could get a 360 ci V8 in 1979 MY and the 318 was still available in 1980. Those aren't heavy cars so a little engine work could go a long way. There are plenty of build up parts for the slant six, a reliable motor.
Also cars like the AMC Gremlin, the 304 V8 can be hotted up, as can the 258 I6. Some have even replaced the 304 with the 401, which is a lot of engine for such a little car (169 inches long depending on bumpers/MY). :cool:

I miss my volare, it was pretty much modded out to look like that, minus the spoiler and flair on the wheel wells.
You'd be supprised how much you can realy goose out of those older "Economy" cars. I knew a guy who could toast ricers in his built up Gremlin and Eagle. I know i personaly used to race people and they'd be supprised a Slant 6 beat them. Its not hard and alot of parts are easy to find for cheap. Plus the Slant is a realy reliable and forgiving engine.

Also in that era was the Dodge Magnum XE. You could get a 400 in the Magnum even in 1978 MY, that could be the basis of a quick ride. :yeah:

This Rebel "Machine" looks ultra hot. It had their most powerful engine of the day, and a hood tach built into the functional hood scoop, nice work. :bravo:
