FFDShow MPEG-4 (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm)



FFDSHOW is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 movies. It uses libavcodec from ffmpeg project for video decompression, postprocessing code from mplayer to enhance visual quality of low bitrate movies, and is based on original DirectShow filter from XviD, which is GPL'ed educational implementation of MPEG4 encoder.

XviD is a video codec just like DivX. Most new movies and videos are being encoded with XviD.

The XviD Codec is needed to play movies encoded by XviD. XviD is better than DivX.

LAME MP3 Encoder is the best mp3 encoder and is available for free! LAME originally stood for L AME A in't an M p3 E ncoder. LAME is an educational tool to be used for learning about MP3 encoding.



Note: There is a bug in LAME MP3 Encoder 3.96 Final version that can cause skipping. We recommend you to download LAME MP3 Encoder 3.96 b2 or LAME MP3 Encoder 3.97 alpha 2004052806.

AC3Filter - it is DirectShow filter for AC3 decoding to play .AVI with AC3 audio tracks and MPEG2 (DVD). Distributed absolutely for free (FREEWARE, OpenSource).



Fraunhofer Radium MP3 (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Fraunhofer_Radium_MP3.htm)



The Fraunhofer codec present here is version 1.263 with Radium hack.

Not Fraunhofer's latest but without doubt their best encoder to date.

The newer Fraunhofer codecs offer better Variable Bitrate performance, but their output quality is lower than the good old 1.263.

Avoid 'em! Nowadays Fraunhofer is surpassed in both quality and speed by LAME.

AC3 Decoder is a convertor for AC3 files and unprotected VOB format files to Ogg Vorbis, MP3, PCM, WAV, WMA. AC3 file can contains up to 6 audio channels. AC3 Decoder combines all this information into two encoded channels that deliver to each of your ears, via conventional stereo headphones, its own unique sum of direct and reflected sound from each virtual speaker.

BladeEnc is a freeware MP3 encoder. It is based on the same ISO compression routines as mpegEnc, so you can expect roughly the same, or better, quality . The main difference is the appearance and speed. BladeEnc doesn't have a nice, user-friendly interface like mpegEnc, but it is more than three times faster, and it works with several popular front-end graphical user interfaces.

You do need a player that is capable of playing RealMedia. The included Media Player Classic supports it and works very well. Supported: RealAudio (.ra .rpm), RealMedia (.rm .ram .rmvb .rpx .smi .smil), RealText (.rt), ReadPix (.rp), RealMedia embedded in webpages. .smi and .smil files sometimes only play the first part of a clip. This is a limitation of the current Media Player Classic. The RealMedia Browser plugin supports Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape and Mozilla.
