BTRIEVE ERROR opening file error 86!?!? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

I have worldgroup installed, well sorta, I installed it on another machine, and burned the directory to this one. I cannot access a crapload of files, such as galfilk.dat and it won't runn the bbs. I no longer have the installation files to reinstall.... lost the cd. can someone help me? either by explaing how to fix this annoying problem (no files have the attribute read only) or a place to download worldgroup 3.20 95/98/nt/2000 or whatever the current version is......

You can't just install it on one machine then copy it over to another... UNLESS it's already been installed on the other machine you are copying to. The software installation no doubt installs/registers a bunch of DLL files that are put into the system folder. Without the installtion package you will be SOL.

I do understand that. I made a backup oif the entire directory wgserv in case it failed or had to be replaced, then my old machine took a healthy one on me, and I ended up losing everything. also, the installation adds a max files and handlers string in the system registry, which is most likely why I get btrieve errors. I just wish I had my origional worldgroup cd. I could reinstall it, set everything up and be up and operational in 2 hours max.... if you know where I can get the installation files, that would be extra helpful in solving my problem.

Well it normally works unless my cable is down... which happens quite a bit on and off during the day. Of course that's about to change soon.
