So I'm debating between using just icq, and sort of aim for those on my list who don't have icq and installing a messenger that's not trillian and sign up for msn/yahoo and the whole schebang.
So I'm just wondering, if I was to install a messenger, what should it be? What do you guys use? And do you agree that trillian sucks ass, or did I not give it enough of a chance?

Re: Messengers
I use AIM and AIM alone... it's real easy and you can use anywhere (aim express).
You can talk to ICQ people on AIM and vice versa....

That's why one of the options for me is just switching to icq, as it is my messenger of choice. And I believe there's icq-lite now or something that's similar to aim express. But in theory, sticking to one messenger might somewhat limit my contacts, so that's why I'm seeing what to use, if I decide to expand.

Re: Messengers
Is ICQ-Lite the java client? I think you are talking about ICQ2Go... i remember downloading the "Icq-lite" client a few months ago and it was the same bloated POS software that it always was.
I stopped using ICQ when AOL bought it from Mirabilis and just switched to AIM. AIM is getting more bloated, but it's still quicker and more efficient. ICQ is what you want if you like tons of features such as chat history.
Plus, most of the people I know have AIM. For anyone (on the internet) who wants to talk to me, I either tell them to get AIM or email me. I've never had a "communications issue", so no need to get one of those Trillian-like programs so I can be on Yahoo, MSN, AIM, and ICQ all at the same time. Just a waste of resources if you ask me.

Re: Messengers
I love trillian. The one and only thing i don't like about it is it has poor buddy list management for AIM if you use it on more then one computer. Deleting buddies can sometimes can be a hassle because your other computer(s) will re-add them. Besides that I think trillian is awesome and i've been using it since before they released the pay-for versions.
if you get angry with it because some peoples text comes in in weird colors (like black backgrounds and stuff) blame them, not trillian. trillian is simply interpretting what they're sending. luckily though, you can turn their crappy formatting off on a per-user basis (right click on the message history area --> options --> text formatting --> off).

Re: Messengers
I still prefer ICQ...have been using it since the mid-90's, and only started switching to the other services as everyone on my ICQ list started switching over. I have a few AIM users on my list, but they don't talk to me anymore anyway..MSN sucks balls. period.
Yahoo is only good for checking email without actually going to the website ;)
AOL just screwed ICQ when they bought it..scavenging it for stuff to put into AIM, and then doing a crappy job at it.
