PVP on MorbidBBS
We were running @ 61 users normally. Right now 37 are on. The only change I've noticed is PVP has been a lot more active and I know a majority of users don't like PVP. Please vote.

PVP makes mud worth playing. In life there are good people and bad people. The bad people would shoot you and take your money and leave you in a ditch. MUD must be the same way. You make choices about who you attack, who you piss off, etc. You reap the consequences. People whining about being attacked need to become less attached to a GAME. PLAY THE GAME!

While I agree to a point, I don't agree that it's a necessary part of the game. One could argue that "play the game" could apply to a mud without PVP... You could also say that people whining about not being able to attack people need to become less attached to the game.
It's all just an opinion. And personally, I think PVP should be turned off.

i thought i deleted this thread, i guess i only deleted the poll. i'll leave it open as long as there is polite discussion on the topic.
my opinion on it is that yes, pvp is part of the game. but i think it needs to be tamed and there needs to be respect for other players. a lot of players simply play to kill scripts and annoy users and don't care about /playing/ the game at all. all that leads to is a depleted user base and a bunch of pissed off people all the time.

Most people will know that I am for PvP.
Yes there are those that harrass scripts or players and such which to my mind is acceptable but its up to the sysop whether to curtail that fact or not.
This is why gangs were made, in my belief, to kill those who are like that but those are just my 2 cents.
But yea, Mud would be horrible without PvP. Heck, FF11 is getting PvP too. ^^

PVP is part of the game, I agree. I think we had pvp to high to begin with! There are to many pricks out there that just want to roam around and hang people, and there are those of us that do just want to play the game.

Thats why when you go beat down grandma, steal her car, and take all her money, the guys in blue come over and throw you in a cell to get anal raped. Take out any ruling authority and what you get is majormud. Its like a buncha punk kids in a gang, fighting over turf.
Also, in most MMORPGS they have differentiated between PKing (Player Killing) and PVP (Player vs Player).
Pking involves general killing anyone or anything that is controlled by a player, doing it to piss them off, or ruin their game, or just because you like being an asshole. It is also non-agreed upon conflict by both parties.
PVPing is when both sides agree to fight, like a duel, or a battle, with rules, such as winner takes the loot, not loot stealing, etc. It is more regulated, and its not a random little guy walking in the park, but guy comes up kills em, takes his shit and trashes it, then goses "I pwned jo jew newb ass lozeR!!"
I am all for PVPing in games, it add a good element for those who dont like bashing monsters, but when it gets to the point of Crypts vs Reds gang war stuff without any regulation, it is kinda lame in my opinion. I think many of the more mature players feel the same way. The only people who want Pking are those who do it.

I believe in fairness. In life as well as in mud, you need to make allies and you need to be diplomatic.
Hence the formation of gangs, gang allies, etc etc.
If someone is a prick, than form your gang into a powerhouse and ally with another and destroy that person utterly.
If you can't do that, than whats the point? I mean there are no limiteds so people don't pvp from that. So whats left is pvping because you hate someone or because you want to let off some steam.
If your going to regulate pvp, than I think there should be limiteds and stuff b/c why would people pvp? For exp spots? Thats about it.

The distinction between PVP and PK not only applies to Majormud but only applies since the advent of "scripting" utilities.
In the beginning, PVP and PK were just different names for the same thing. Scripting was never meant to be part of any mud game - i mean how is it that you are "playing" a game when you let a program do everything? PVP was designed with the assumption that you'd be at the keyboard so if you died, well, that's your fault.
People on both sides of the debate have their own opinions and arguments: those who say everything goes give the arguments such as "hey it's just a game" or "don't script if you're afraid of being attacked." They might even go for the argument that in real life, you can't expect everyone to be noble, etc. The point is, you can't justify that script killing is or is not part of the game since scripting itself wasn't meant to be part of the game.
Personally, I think script killing is utterly lame, but i'm not going to put down the sysop or bbs if they support it. I'll just go play elsewhere that has rules I like.
So basically either Syntax and Xetox decide or have the people vote; just make the rule and move on. The grey area only promotes controversy.
