Does deleting the update dat have downsides? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by syntax53 »

I have another post already in the 'LJN support' forum about my problems making the update file after my edits with LJN. *I'm just wondering what the downsdies are to not having that file?

I finally made my own monster dat file with the exp 2x, and that's the only edit we have.

When I had deleted it in the past we think items had stopped regening in the shops, does that in fact do that? *Does anyone else have this problem? *What do you do to fix it? *Are there any other problems I should be aware of?

1.11i (mod9) btw.

Thanks,

-Matt

Some people have experienced minor glitches due to lack of the file. Shop regen goes down, monster regen, some monsters don't regen at all (ie High Druid)...The upside is that it doesnt take so long to start the bbs up because it doesnt have to run through that damn file if you crash the bbs...

Aye, thats lunars major problem is shop regen from lack of the wccupda2.dat but from what i hear LJN can rebuild it from your current database.

Some ot the other problems I've noticed on several boards that I think are linked to the removal of that file is shop regen, high druid regen, dao lord regen, apparatis regen (only appears once, needed for +dodge bonus), alder chest doesnt regen in the treasure room, also it changes the way the monsters regen (with the file they dont popup when you look in the room, etc). Thats just the shit I've noticed on pretty much every edited board.

Ooooh yeah... Take away your update file and a host of problems occur..

biggie #1 shop regen is gonzo.. nixed... screwed... have fun adding items to shops manually ever week or so..

biggie #2 limited items will NOT regen and drop where they are supposed to... doh...

in my opinion thats enough to say screw it heh why bother... BUT as was said earlier just get a copy of ljn edit or majordum or whatever you wanna call it and compile your own database from the hexed dats you create.. sure the bbs takes longer to load with a database installed.. thats cause its regenning items in shops... indexing limiteds... you know.. what its supposed to do heh... personally id wait a few extra mins for that

With the update file in place my BBS doesn't seem to take much, if any, more time to load but there is a few minutes of lag right after the bbs comes up while mud finishes initializing. I'd say it's well worth compiling a update file to keep from having all the problems.

Yea Admiral there is a dll out there that bypasses the database updte completely.. My advice: find the dll that doesnt... It really isnt worth running a bbs that doesnt update.. No items regen on monsters... Nothing works right heh... If u guys cant find the dll let me know, I'll send it to you. I even made it 256 reg snicker..
