WG/Mud Crashing Problem? Write Error:8

Yeah im having a problem with my MajorMUD Crashing. It all started last night right before someone (Erek Micah. Aka. Serena) logged onto my Test account. The board crashed 3-4 times in a row and the only error mesage I got was Write Error: 8. I took the board down and I ran a full virus scan and my wgserver.exe file was infected with a small parasite, and I put the board back up. It seemed to run smoothly but after I went to bed it crashed another 3 times in a row at like 4:30 in the morning. Now ive been investigating the problem thoroughly and my sources have told me that someone may have planted a Backdoor onto my Computer.. I also think it could possibly be some of my WG settings. These crashes also occured right after I had ran an online update w/ some new kai powers, but since the crashes I have completely deleted every msg/spell that was associated, and I still had the same problem. Now the board is running very Laggy and im afraid it is not stable because I have nothing to base this 'Write Error: 8' Upon.. I also think the Board being laggy could be from my buffer settings - If I could get any information on what the best property values for those are, that would be great.. I lowered them from what I was told to set them at (100 below max?) and I put the init rate to maximum. I am right now going to take down the board and disable my unwanted Modules. If anyone has any ideas or ANY information on the above problems. PLEASE write ASAP - Got a good board going dont want to see it ruined :) Thank ya.

Just so everyone knows, my Board has been running 30+ users strong for 2 months now so Its not one of these common idiotioc problems most newbie boards have like "I Forgot to add the Modules"... My specs are AMD 1.8ghz, 556m Ram.. Things have all ran smoothly until the "Test" account logged on.. Since then wierd shit has been happening.. I also show FTP called being recieved sometimes on my Audit trail? That Cant be good.. As well as WorldWideWeb call acceptions in a "Simultanious Spam-like Manner (15x time)" Really hoping for some Answers here ? :) Thanks.

Technically, it is "one of these common idiotic problems most newbie boards have".... Test is the first user you delete when you create a board. I sure hope Erek didn't fuck your shit up though, cause that's rude.

go thru your wcc files attribs... make sure they are not set to 'read only'

I think I know how he crashed the BBS the first few times, probably by using the crimson bracers..wouldn't surprise me.



As far as people getting on your FTP - yeah, that doesn't sound good, that's probably how you got that virus and could be where you got the 'backdoor' your users are mentioning.. I'd disable it if I were you - unfortunately, I don't really know how..so you'd have to ask like Panterra or Syntax or BlackHaze iNViSiGOD or something, etc..anyone who's been working with WG for a long time.



But I got Write Error: 8 when someone crashed my board by 'use crimson bracers'..so I wouldn't be surprised. Theres a thread someone on here as to how to fix the problem, as opposed to just deleting the item, but you'd have to search for it.

I believe he took the spell off of crimson bracers already, because some users were using it to crash the board when regen was dead..

Consistant FTP calls can cause problems miles. Disable WWW, FTP,Rlogin and all ftp access. As for the worldgroup codes ill look into that error and see what i cant come up with. Lunar was plagued with problems like that at one time. So i might be able to find something.
