that's a problem that happens a lot in 98, or that's the only one I've seen that happen in frequently. you are on 98 right? Restarting the program is about the only way I know. Sometimes it just eats the taskbar icons.

nah, xp pro. anytime the explorer.exe crashes (or you end task it) and a new one is started some system tray icons get lost. even loading a new megamud doesn't make it pop up. if you minimize the newly loading megamud it dissapears as well. they only way i've found to get it back is to either reboot, or end-task all megamud.exe's.

I just start up a empty megemud, and then the icon comes back with all the other charactor(s) listed.

I can't really help with your problem, but I can at least explain how it could be solved if Merlin had open sourced MegaMud.
This is actually a problem with Windows--
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;180498
But, software developers CAN work around this using a difficult to find solution--
http://www.microsoft.com/msj/0299/c/c0299.aspx
This article from MSDN is also useful--
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/programmersguide/shell_int/shell_int_programming/taskbar.asp
At least this'll be useful for anyone in here who finds themselves writing an app that works in the notification area.
