Im thinking about getting two muds up and possibly LORD. maybe a few others any suggestions are welcome and i'll let you guys know in this thread by sunday if im going to have it or not, so get ur ideas in quick. Also for the first few weeks ill be doing updates etc if people give me ideas. also looking into new areas, but still need to figur out how to get monsters in there. shops and rooms r easy ;) well hope i get some good feedback from u guys.

99% of cable providers come with a static IP. The only thing that would change it is if there are some major upgrades in the system. You can get a free dns from www.kicks-ass.org, or just search the internet for free dns. You'll turn up a hundred options.

you can get free dns from anywhere, darktech.org is free. If you do a google search for "free dns" that should get you started.

a good place to start an edited bbs is put what you would like to see in a bbs on your board since it IS yours. Once its established go by user feedback within the game and soon you will have a nice board that you and your players will enjoy.

You will get a static IP through your cable company. You will get a dynamic DNS through a DNS server (http://www.dtdns.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=info.hosts).

just to clarify, not all cable companies give static IPs. I know Comcast around philly does not give static IPs, they're DHCP assigned. However, as long as your computer is on all the time (or at least not off for a period of days) your lease should never expire.

Who told you that Speed? Standard cable accounts are generally dynamic. Least the ones I've heard of. Road Runner is that way and I believe Cox is as well. Road Runner changes it every now and then, sometimes it goes 3 months.

Sorry, I use cox and I've had two IP addresses since I got my service two or three years ago. The only time it changed was when they switched to their own service or whatever they did earlier this year. I assumed it was the same for everyone, guess not. My bad.

Well, then, he'll have to go to his cable company like he said and get a static :D
