Question [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by zan »

This may be a dumb question but is there a way to edit WHILE the realm is running but just apply the edits later when the board is down to save on down-time? I am new to this whole thing and I was just wondering if that was possible. Thank you for your time.

the only 100% stable and safe way to do it is to copy your dats to a different directory and set nmr up to edit those. when you are ready, you would bring the board down, copy the files in, and then reload it back up.

things to keep in mind though are things like monster item drops and kill time. if someone kills a monster and then you copy in the monster file later on, that monster's last killed time is going to be set to whatever it is on the file your copying in.

I do all my edits while the board is running, directly from the dats that are running and I never run into problems. After that, go into the mud sysop menun and apply update. wccupda2.dat. your edits will take effect while the board is running. (85% of them anyway, some just wont work while the board is up, i dunno why, and cant think of any examples offhand)
