This is a write-up on how to regain your speed after installing WINXP w/ SP1 on your system, courtesy of yours truly. Taken directly off of galactichalo.forumshq.com



I recently installed XP Service pack 1 and noticed a drastic performance decrease, especially while tryinog to load Internet Explorer so i decided to further explore the issue and found the following which caused the problems for me. I'll list my specs below and will tell you now that you try this *AT YOUR OWN RISK* Galatic Halo holds no responsibility for any harm that may take place.



Test Bed:



(My old LAN Box)



Gigabyte GA-7VXTXE (266A).

128 Megs PNY PC2100.

PNY Geforce3 Ti200.

45gig 7200RPM Maxtor HD.

Linksys 10/100 NIC.

50x Liteon CDROM.

AMD Duron 1ghz Processor.

Coolermaster HHC-001 Cooler.

ANTEC 350w PSU.

It discusses an update to "Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio" which for reasons unknown to myself causes severe slow-downs in lower end machines. I decided to try and address this issue and see what can be done to resolve it by removing various "Hot Fixes" from my service pack installation. After some experimenting i cam across this "Hot Fix" which seemed to cause uncontrollable slow-downs on my LAN box. I decided to remove one at a time and this was the first one i came across and after removing it and rebooting it sped thing up drastically. Hence it led me to go into START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS and the uninstallation of Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) [See Q309521 for more information] and once removed things performed much more up to par as opposed to leaving thje questionable file on my XP installation.
