So, how close do YOU think we are to the end?



Lately, I have been hearing a lot about polar bears. So much, in fact, I have been researching how to build bear buoys. There isn't enough polar ice to support the bears, they are having to swim upwards of 70 miles to find food, and the bears have started washing up on shore. They have drowned. Scientist say if drastic change in our enviroment doesn't happen very soon, the polar bears are going to be excint. Maybe within 25 years.



So besides polar bear worry keeping me up at night, I also watch (and re-watched) armageddon week on either Sci fi or Discovery. The earth is overdue for so many natural disasters, ie earthquakes, volcano eruptions, asteroids hitting our planet...seemingly endless list of things.



Then, throw the planet's ever booming population into the equation. I have read scientist that theorize the planet can support around 13 billion people before natural resources give out, diseases like super-flus and plagues can't be contained, famine takes over. We are pushing 10 billion people right now.



Then, you add the human threats: atomic weapons, biological warfare...again endless list.



Maybe paranoia has set in, but it seems like whenever I turn on the television or pick up a magazine, I see a new danger lurkering, ready to devistate the planet.



Is the end nigh?

It might be, but I've personally decided to ignore it. I'd imagine there will be some drastic changes yet in our lifetime, on a near-global scale, be it food / transportation / medicinal / etc. I just choose to go on with my daily life, make good with karma when I can, and try to stay away from negative cause/effect type scenario's.

I've never been smart enough to change the world, so I never tried. Hell, I have a hard enough time making well-educated decisions in my own life. How are we, as a collective planet, going to educate 10 billion people on why we can't eat how we used to, or how-to live on gasoline vouchers, or why forced birth control may end up being a necessity, and not a human rights violation.

It's a circular question, and sadly the more people that get involved in the solution(s), makes the circle even larger. Perspectives and culture are going to prevent most any plan from being adopted on a global scale, and politics and greed will constantly be on the alert for the smallest loopholes to take advantage of.

So, if you like, there's always room for more holes in the ground next to mine. Once you get past the taste of dirt, it's really not so bad.

This is the reason I don't watch alot of television. Our nation is awash with "doomsday syndrome". The media keeps everyone so afraid of one thing or another - terrorism, earthquakes, the Y2k bug, blah blah blah.. I could walk down the street tomorrow and get hit by a car, but does this prevent me from leaving my house?

The world will end, has to end, but I highly doubt it will be in my lifetime.

Forget Global Warming.. Personally I think China poses more threat.

Hopefully, we aren't just screwing this whole living thing up for our children and their children and so on. There's alot of research going on to save the earth but we (humans) just seem to want to destroy everything in the name of being number 1. can't say i blame anyone though. it's in our nature.:werd:

Well you put all those things in your first paragaph there into action and we should be able to knock population down by at least 6 or 7 billion! Thats positive ;)

Again.....should help with the populations problem, and that will help with the global warming problem..less people better all around!
