Dual-Core, advantages? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Ok, so I recently built a system for my supervisor with all the new doohickeys and gadgets that make me jealous and want to take a paperweight to his head so I can steal his machine.... ANYHOO..



He got an AMD Dual-Core 4.2ghz Processor. I've done very minimal research on the advantages, and frankly don't see any for the "casual" geek. He's not a hardcore gamer - the main priority is to handle very large spreadsheets via Excel, Powerpoint presentations, etc. Nothing that is really CPU intensive, as far as I'm aware.



What exactly, in layman's terms, is the advantage of dual-core processing?



Bastard's even got Dual-SLI 7800GTX's.. :argh: what a waste.
