worlgroup problems
Re: worlgroup problems
My WG has to have the external IP listed or it won't work. AUTO always returns 192.168.0.1 - which doesn't work for me. I've gotta have my real IP in there.

that's odd cause I have ALWAYS used AUTO and have always run boards from behind a router. when you say it doesn't work are you sure you're not just having a dns issue when it binds to that IP? I bet you could connect if you "telnet 192.168.0.1" and not "telnet compname." it really doesn't even make sense to have it set to an IP that it doesn't own. i'm not saying you're wrong speed just i know it should work the other way as well.

Re: worlgroup problems
i was just messin around with this last night. i took my board down a while back, and was thinking about putting it back up. i am behind a router as well. i got everything set up with the dns addy, made sure i had port 23 open on the built in netgear firewall, made sure i had the correct ip addy. but i cant connect to mine either unless i use the internal 192.168.... so if anyone figures this out, send me an AIM SteppnOver
thanks
thanks
Re: worlgroup problems
Well now. I just got home and checked. You're right, it's 192.168.1.101 grin. My bad. I could have sworn I had massive problems with that setup. I just tried auto and it don't work, but my local IP does. Whoops. Sorry. You got me again :)

why would you need to use anything else? ... what else would you use? you cant use your outside ip/dns information from an internal client because then you would be going from inside, to the outside world, and then right back in, even my cisco doesn't know how to rout that shit. to connect to a bbs on your local network you gotta either use the IP or the machine netbios name (or you can add a line to your pc's 'hosts' file and connect to it with any name you want).

Re: worlgroup problems
I run Wg on windows server 2003 rc2 on an my internal IP address and i just route my inet connections port 23 to my internal ip on port 23.. that way i am the only one with access to the web admin portion of wg.. Always works good for me this way and secure.

Re: worlgroup problems
I just set up my bbs using a netgear wireless router with WG 3.30 and winXP pro, it was a pain in the arse at first, it wouldn't let any outside connections in. After I deleted and reset the port forwarding section 3 times it worked. Have Wg set to my internal ip and everything is smooth. Maybe netgear routers just suck, heh.
