xp is the best!

there are sites dedicated to tell you what all drivers are compatible/not compatible with XP.

the most problems i've really encountered with XP is: Nvidia, DDR ram, and cdrom drives

because of incompatible drivers

but i've really only had problems with the newer machines (especially if you build it yourself)

Ok, since we're talking of problems. I'm having probs with my Compaq DVD-Rom (taken from a Compaq-built machine) and Windows XP Professional. It won't recognize it as DVD, at least when I put a DVD in it doesn't play it. It says "DVD-Drive" under my computer, tho.. I've heard of mass problems with DVD-Roms and XP..

Been there.. Dunno how old the drive is, got it offa a computer I upgraded for someone, a celeron 700mhz so it's probably a coupla years old prolly. Been to driverguide, didn't help me one frickin bit. In fact, when I thought I'd found the driver, it turned out to be some dumbfuck's resume...
