Well, because I had a power surge this morning and it fried my hardrive, i have pruchased a new one, and am going to have to reinstall everything...so if anyone of the 5-6 players that were there still want to play, let me know in this thread. Sorry...

Why is it that for the years that I have a computer, nothing majorly bad happens, but the sysops of WG systems seem to get all the power surges, viruses, and problems? That sucks dude. It seems that the computer gods are targetting WG admins or something.

Thats what i was thinking...i have never had a hardrive fry like that on me...shrug. No big deal, i just got paid the other day, so buying a new hardrive wasnt a big deal...just sucks i lost all the bbs files...so gotta start fresh.

yea, sorry to hear about your drive. sucks i know. i have had one get hit by lightning and another get demolished from a simple static shock. good to hear that you can easily replace yours too.

actually backup and power protectors are rather nice..

Espcially the ones where your equiptment is insured for up to 10k

i had mine on a surge protector when it got struck by lightning. i truned the system off during the storm, but i didnt unplug it. as for the insurance...well because the thing was more than 3 years old, they wouldnt pay a god damn thing. so to anyone who has an older surge protector and thinks they have coverage..chances are, you dont.

Do you *REALLY* think an older model surge protector is going to stop a lightning bolt from jumping across a simple little gap? The newer models can prevent it (I dunno how), but an older ones are made for simple static discharges around the house. A lightning bolt jumps from the ground to the sky. Going a quarter inch through a surge protector isn't really a problem.

im not the one that put the label on it saying guarantees against lightning up to 10,000. shrug.

Seeing that a single lightning bolt can pack tens of millions of volts into one discharge, I can see why someone would buy that.
