Just a heads up [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Just figured I'd let anybody that comes here and plays on my system a little heads up. My cable through ATT has a bad habbit of dropping out alot during the day (sometimes 20+ times between 7AM and 6PM). Those of you who have spent much time on my system in the daytime know what I'm talking about. Since they seem unwilling to do any more than keep sending somebody here who then in turn just tells me my signal is fine and I shouldn't be having a problem... I will be switching providers. I'll be switching to DSL, so anybody that has been using my IP to connect needs to break that habbit since I will no longer have a 'more or less' static IP. Anyhow the switch should be more or less painless for my players but you will need to start using titleist.idleplay.net to connect instead of an IP address since any time the connection does drop and comes back up the IP will have changed. When I had DSL before it was very stable with maybe one disconnect every 7 days or so and it was always right back up. Unfortunatly I have already lost several users to this problem but this will have those nasty connection issues resolved once and for all.

The only problem with a business package is the best deal I could get would be a 144 Kbps IDSL line for 129 bucks a month, along with a 229 dollar setup fee, and an initial equipment fee. That's a bit steep all things considered...The static IPs would be a bonus though. And I don't care about the email accounts, I have my own mail server.

Mindspring had some ports blocked... like port 80. But it's not blocked in the hardware it's blocked on their servers. For instance I couldn't send outgoing traffic on 25 unless it was to their server, it would stop the traffic from going out past them. At any rate I don't really have much choice, I HAVE to switch to something else. These outages are just out of control.
