Ok man I've been looking for this game for over a year now and I cant find it. This is what I remember about it:
I downloaded it on download.com once....(I think)
It was ASCII using characters and symbols to draw the map you were on (imagine Zelda 1 for NES but with ASCII instead of graphics, thats the closest thing I can think of)
Your character is a golden symbol, I forgot which. I think it's the symbol for a new paragraph indention (you know the P with 2 slices through it)
You can learn a variety of skills from swimming to lockpicking, and so forth
You start by a town right on the water, and the next town is to the northeast...
If anyone has ever played this game, I would greatly appreciate any help finding it...... a name would be fucking awesome.
I checked sites listing top ASCII RPG and adventure games, and it's not on any of them, although I have to say the one I played is much more comprehensive and in-depth than the ones they list.

Sounds like LORD II sort of.
Re: Im searching for an old ASCII game I used to play...
I just looked at some of the screenshots for lord 2....ok now imagine that, but the trees are ¥ symbols, the grass is like green ô or something, and the roads are brown ô, then the mountains are some grey symbol. I think the character is a golden £

Re: Im searching for an old ASCII game I used to play...
There was a game called ZZT which allowed users to build new worlds. A ZZT world might be customizable enough to become what you are talking about..
Re: Im searching for an old ASCII game I used to play...
No, neither of those Southern =( but close, it looked alot like the first one. Mudlist, I looked for LORE on the web and all I could find was stuff for newer games. Legends of Lore and Lands of Lore and stuff.....I have a feeling that if the game I'm looking for is still out there, it's buried so deep I may as well search for a needle in a haystack.....

Re: Im searching for an old ASCII game I used to play...
My friend has a BBS with a bunch of doors on it. Another one I thought of was Arrow Bridge or Arrow Bridge 2. LORE has lock pickings skills however.
His bbs is telnet://bbs.at2k.org (its virtual advanced, so no majormud). I think the Roughnecks BBS (Synchronet) has a bunch that are sitll very active as well.

Re: Im searching for an old ASCII game I used to play...
This wasnt a board game, it was just a regular pc game. Very in-depth for its age. I dont know, I'll keep searching and if I find anything I'll post about it. Thanks for the input guys
