largest populated boards around?
What are some of the most populated boards around at the moment? Looking to get back into playing but dont really wanna play on a fly by night

I believe the most obvious question is with unique attributes and where boards stand.
I believe an op from every board should be fair about all boards and let the players seeking a
Board to decide for themselves. As far as edits, two stand out, but as far as players it depends on the type of mentality and personality you are looking for in a board.
NOTE### I cannot speak for other boards because I do not know their official stats as far as edits go. I will provide a brief of what I know about them instead, and leave my board for last.
A lot of other mud's runs primarily off of MudRev Dats:
Quicksilver, run by Ghaleon (3 mud's in one) no sysop interference.
Silicon Valley (pvp) runs off MudRev Dats, but Silicon is a good Op
Internal Illusions (down for maintenance rite now)
The Boink Machine, also down right now due to Mistweaver moving to a new state.
Utopia BBS, I know little about this board, other than having it on my list as active boards.
Trillion Zero, Like Utopia it is a fresh reset, I am not sure what dats or versions they are running.
Infinite Space, ECC Tech and Spectrum of Darkness, Last I checked all these boards were up.
Greater mud, this is a primarily stock board with a new Interface to run it ran off of a simple parsing system. (What it appears to be to me) It does not run MMUD off of WG.
Speaking of larger edited realms.
Rotten Mud, Ran by Rotten and Plague good mud friend and fellow op and one of my editing apprentice.
Plague is the primary editor for this board
Stress free board, runs mud revs dats, but does their own unique edits and advancing as well. I am a sysop on this board and it is partially used as test bad for my coding and programming once I take something out of beta for its final stage of testing (new programs, coding updates, not edits).
Hated Reality: More adult Orientated, Extreme Humor at Times
These are the official stats on Edits
Rooms: 61030 Rooms (6 thousand Mud Rev Integration, 28,000 Metro, 26+ Thousand All Original with over 300 Original areas). Many original quests for new classes that involve align and custom NPC work.
4600 Items 3100 Spells (including mobs) 8 k messages, 7 k Text Blocks.
It also has its own unique text system, not found anywhere else. (New ANSI functioning code, Mega does not recognize it, but players can customize their own text in the game)
This realm runs of its own custom .DLL. It uses its own editing program (CBREAK recoded to work for HR, helps with live editing when needed), NMR only used for light surface buffering and polishing of edits. The mud contains many features and enhancements not found on other muds that are both code and edited related.
The board also includes every known game made for WG 3.30, not just MMUD.
It is slowly getting away from running WG as well (like Greater mud) Except it is going to run a clone in the background that runs all WG games, not just Major mud, that is a few months away from final completion, if I keep the work on it going. However, WG itself was updated and reworked and brought up to date both in the code and surface functions. It also has its own integrated radio station for the mud, with live request etc so players can share and listen to each others music (over a terabyte of stored music for the station) as well. It also includes a lot of other BBS related things.
Hopefully other boards can post their stats as well after this.
There is two ways of looking at it players or edits (challenging). There are a few out there but the decision is up to the one who wants to play. Other players can recommend, but the ultimate decision is to the individual and in what they are looking for.

Miles is apparently trying to get me to host mudrev again on quicksilver.. we'll see if i decide on that one, but you never know.

I don't think the question is how many users you have, maybe more importantly how many unique users you have? I know of one of if not the largest legit boards that has 60+ live characters, however some people have 2 or 3 dupes. My board has average of 15-20 unique users on. It's unedited however, as some prefer. Good luck with the stable bbs. I would say the most stable are the ones people bought, or people like sc and others who put tons of time into their systems.

Heads up spectrum is down, I wish it was up, was a fantastic realm but we all understand geno went back to work(out of town. 2+ year commitment) so life is more important then MMUD. (i know plz dont flag me for that).
I think every realm offers something different and it's own unique aspect. Even a stock realm is defined by it's players. I'm not going to tell you to try any board specific but I offer a suggestion what I used a determining method for board quality.....
Start a char, if you don't play at keys often within a few days, drop it. If you make a char and find yourself doing stuff and talking to people, stay. Im an exp whore so I love being on topten. I know I'm shallow but that was a driving factor for me, the sheer will for competition.
If you find a BBS you like and aren't on the topen (which is to be expected) then so what, I think the worst thing ppl do is make a char and loop for no reason, explore what is genuine.
Two things which are truly genuine is GMUD which is a project that has accomplished alot and has high expectation and Hated reality. I'm gonna rub southerns nuts here for a sec and tell you there is more stuff to do on HR then you can make time for, and his edits (lately) aren't just like, areas and mobs but like, Individuals owning houses and lakebound fishing systems, and owning pets and stuff you hadn't ever thought off. Both of these are great places to start, but plz whatever you decided to , give some feedback or reviews, because 10 to 1 your' not the only one looking........

you can log on to mudlite.com make 4 or 5 players use bugs to figure out what you want to do, then go play some of the really good edited boards out there.
