Skiing Etc.....

Post by Pantharen »

I work at one of the local mountains. I saw a guy today with a pair of "Snow blades"... Now I haven't been skiing in MANY years, and well No idea what snow blades are.

Has anyone off here used em, how hard compared to Skiing? I sortta remember how to ski ... Its like riding a bike....

What would you do? Ski or Snow Blades? (I dont snow board, just not my thing)

[ADMIN EDIT]

On subject...

I used to ski quite a bit - downhill and cross country. Dislocated my knee in high school, quickly put an end to my snow-fun.
Never heard of a snow blade before, but it sounds gay. I think I'd stick with skiing.

I was gonna say that same thing. Hostilities are up and on the go. I've never gone skiing, I used to snowboard when I was like, ten, but never did anything fancy other than going down a pretty large hill in my back yard.

Quote from: Dakkon;108122Snowblades look pretty easy. If you can stand on 2 feet, you can do them. If you can rollerblade, you're golden. However, they're slow as shit and everyone will be making fun of you, but mostly behind your back. Try them the last day of the season, where everyone does stupid shit.

Thats pretty much what my boss said too.

What? Why was I editted? Glad what I said was quoted, it wasn't my own hate (I've always secretly wanted to try them too), it's common knowledge.

Snowboarding is great, except for tight trees and ice and flats. If you can stick with it thru the 1st 3 days of being on your ass or your face 99% of the time, on the 4th day you'll be able to ride decently. It's just a matter of finding and feeling out the proper balance. Board size and binding angle are very important. I tell everyone take a lesson once. Take it the 1st time if you can't find someone to guide you and you have no idea how to do the lifts. Otherwise, take the the 3rd or 4th day. Believe me, you can get into bad habits without even realizing it and by the time you do, they're a real bitch to break. That way, you won't go to the bunny hill, you'll go to the greens, where an instructor can correct your technique and tell you what you're doing wrong. After that, you'll be cruising most anything no prob within a week.

I've been "admin edit" de-virginized!

Lots of lovely snow here in So. Cal. Still no desire to go up the hill and hurt myself, though.

Heh, my post just plain disappeared!

Lots of craptastic snow here in NY. Having lived in CO for awhile, the desire to get on the skating rink and tiny-ass mountains that are around me is just not there. That and I broke a couple ribs last year in an accident that could have been a hell of a lot worse and I have no health insurance, so I got my 1st taste of reality. I definitely went from the "it'll never happen to me" attitude of youth to the "I need to be cautious cuz I got bills to pay" attitude I (mostly) have now that day.
