New Board: HardMUD

Post by Raybdbomb »

I'm thinking of making a board in a few weeks with the following for stats:

1 char per user. it's the same as one char per IP, with the addition of one IP per user.

It will be a stock mud with the following exceptions:

All races have -20 base stat (or -19 if -20 leads to 0)

All races have +100 max stat

All classes get (an additional) -2/-2 HP (i.e. instead of 6-10, it would be 4-8; instead of 3-6 it would be 1-4)

quest exp * 5

monster exp * 4

monster hp * 3

lair mod (for additional monsters)

spell mod (for fairness to spellcasters at high levels)

sys map

monsters: all item drop% = 10 where drop% <=10

monsters: all money drop * 5 where exp <= 5000

all of the above is up for discussion for potential players.

also considering (limited) pvp with recall and 3x lims, or non-pvp with sys goto and no lims

the point of this mud would be cooperation. i MIGHT consider 2 chars per IP, but definitely no more.

This will just end up creating further disparity between the exp rate of 1-hander classes and the rest. Its been awhile since I viewed the spell mod, but after glancing it over I can tell you this effectively prevents solo room scripting for an aditional 10-15 levels. What we will see however is that Paladins will still be solo scripting at high levels, and making more exp than on a legit mud.

Also you might want to find out what happens when a bard lowers a stat below 0 before you try this.

I have. If a stat is 0 or below, the only effect is that the user "has to" retrain on reentrance. Of course if strength is below 0, their enc would be below 0, so they can't move. But yea, i'll test this more before implemented. also, how many users would keep a stat low enough that it could become less than 0? but i guess i could see a bashing hog warrior with 1 -X agility.

Any thoughts on fixing the 1-hander predicament? How about -30% exp/class 1h; +30% exp/class everyone else. Or a different number, perhaps? Or something else?

where the 1hers are

missionary

thief

bard

gypsy

warlock

or how about increasing the weight of 2h weapons? hm...

The issue with the 1 handers is that there damage is soo much less than the others. In mmud it isnt as big of a deal because monsters dont have all that many hps anyway, but with 3x hps the difference will be more pronounced.

With stats that low your gonna have issues..but you dont really need to test them I suppose, your users will most certainly do that for you. The only fix that comes to mind is like a huge -acc modifer on 2 handed weapons. Even that is questionable though as it couldnt be a universal modifer unless you just didnt want anyone using 2 handers till they overcame the acc modifer.
