Hi!

As promised, the DeathBlow BBS website now offers a JAVA Telnet client (Click the Connect! button on the right hand side) and a Who's On DeathBlow? block (also on the right hand side of the main page). We also expect the final release of Arctic Global Chat - A full-featured global chat module complete with squelch/unsquelch and per-channel gagging - to be finished and implemented by cleanup tomorrow.

Coming soon is a web-based detailed listing of realm stats, similar to that of TurboSentry, but specific to the two realms we run.

Arctic Global Chat, Arctic Sysop User List (a command added to the Arctic Enhanced Telnet Daemon to list all users online with their IP addresses), and Arctic Who's Online Web Module are available for purchase from ArcticZone Internet Solutions. Arctic Global Chat is $20.00USD, Arctic Sysop User List is $10.00USD, and Arctic Who's Online Web Module is $10.00USD. All of these modules were built for DeathBlow BBS and work on WG3.3 flawlessly. Knowing ArcticZone's commitment to quality, I doubt previous versions of WG will encounter any problems with these modules.

Pushing the envelope - always.

Greetings and salivations,

DeathBlow BBS now has a domain name! DeathBlowBBS.com now points to deathblow.dyndns.org. For the sake of convenience (and the occasional random RR IP address change), I've decided to set it up this way.

But not for long! There is a deal in the works right now to put DeathBlow BBS on a multi-homed T-3 connection in Lincoln, NE. Keep your eye on DeathBlow BBS, folks, we're getting better every day!

Greetings and salivations,

Looney has taken on some R.L. issues, and will not be able to dedicate as much time to DeathBlow BBS as he would like to, so I've taken on an interim CoSysop.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Ladies that pass for Gentlemen, and Gentlemen who enjoy dressing like Ladies, Please welcome Abyssyml (The Ghost @ FHQ, sysoping under the User-ID Dhan on DeathBlow) to the DeathBlow BBS team! He brings to the table a long-standing history of solid Sysop skills, and a vast amount of knowledge in the day to day operations of a successful MajorMUD BBS.

Looney (O.D. @ FHQ, sysoping under the User-ID BlackChaos on DeathBlow) will retain his Sysop status, and all decisions concerning the CTO realm will be discussed and finalized between him and Abyssyml. I also find this arrangement beneficial as I have started receiving concerned comments about the CTO realm becoming _seriously_ unbalanced and in dire-need of a complete makeover (and they wonder why it's taken me two weeks to even get all of Griffon Mountain on paper, heh. My realm is not resetting ) and yet another reset .

More to come as events unfold...

Heya, time for another update from the one and only DeathBlow BBS!

Well, I've noticed that we're holding 60-70 connections at any given point in time now, so I have upped the line count to 128. At the going rate, this should last another 2 - 3 weeks

CTO-MMUD appears to have stabilized, and the realm is prospering beyond my expectations (although I hear it's a real PVP-fest over there)!

Now, on to big things. As some of you may or may not know, we are planning a big move/change in the coming month. CTO-MMUD will remain at my house and will be accessible via cto.deathblowbbs.com, and the normal-exp realm will be moving to a T1 connection in Nebraska. We will be listing on TurboSentry, as well as on MajorMUD.com's BBS list. Neither realm will be reset, and everyone's accounts will remain intact. Global chat will be linked between the boards via a clever script I have written, so the sense of community between our realms will remain, as well. This is going to be a really large transition for our mudders, and we want to have everything planned out to the letter before going forward, so any dates you may hear are extremely tentative.

If you have any questions, contact me on DeathBlow.

Okay, I've been hashing this out with my users, and here is how we're going to handle this realm for current mudders who want to play there:

Users in the Primary or Secondary classes will receive the NOMUD key for the new realm. This means your current usernames will not be able to play in the new realm.

Users who sign up to play in the new realm will receive the NOMUD key for the existing two realms. This means that if you signed up to play in the new realm (and I have talked to you), you will not be able to participate in the other two realms.

If you decide that you want to switch a user from one realm to another, your account class will be switched as well.

You may, as of this writing, create a third account on DeathBlow BBS for the purpose of playing in the third realm, as well as one of the 2-acct realms.

The third realm is explicitly ONE CHARACTER PER IP. If you have a wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/cat/dog/whatever who wants to play from your IP address, I'm sorry, but this just is not allowed. I may take into consideration people willing to play while the other is not logged on, and will watch this behavior CLOSELY for things like item hording.

Some time in the next week or so, DeathBlow BBS will be upgrading to an AMD Semperon 2500+ with a new motherboard and 1GB of DDR RAM courtesy of koIL

I do not expect more than a 1 - 2 hour service interruption, and will keep everyone posted as to the exact time and date that the upgrade will take place. I've noticed, that after adding the third realm, once we hit up around 65 users, the BBS begins to lag. I've done some pretty extensive bandwidth testing, and the problem is not the connection count; we should be able to easily hold around 140 users and still have enough bandwidth for my family to surf the net comfortably.

Upon further investigation, while the system always keeps 60-80MB of available RAM, and swap remains minimal, I've noticed that with more users on since I added the third realm, the processor load spikes.

This is why I feel it's necessary to up the processor/memory, and why koIL has donated the necessary hardware.

Anyways, this is just an update to keep everyone informed.

COME PLAY MUD

Time Warner cable will be here between 10:00AM - 10:15AM EST to perform diagnostics and hopefully switch out my cable modem, which has been giving me a lot of problems with dropping the signal, knocking both the BBS and my phone off-line. The BBS will be down 1 - 2 hours.

Hi, folks

I'm having massive problems with RoadRunner. My cable modem is dropping its connection 5 - 8 times a day, killing the phone along with it. This means that there is no way to let me know when you can't reach the BBS.

I've ordered a different service which will be installed on 2/2/7, sometime in the afternoon. The new service is 8mbit/s down, and 1mbit/s up. Hopefully, this will clear up all the problems that I've been having.

I'd love to get it in sooner, but the FCC, in their infinite wisdom, has decreed that when transferring a telephone number between services, you have to wait two weeks after placing the order before it can be installed. Go figure.

Anyways, I just wanted to keep everyone informed as to why DeathBlow keeps disappearing off the face of the earth, and assure you all that I am taking steps to fix the problem.

Greetings and Salutations!

It's been a while since we've had an update, so here goes:

Sometime in the next few days, CTO-MMUD will be resetting. The realm has become grossly unbalanced, and is causing the BBS to crash at random. DeathCow will be opping the new and improved CTO, and is responsible for the edits, as well. This is beneficial for the both of us. It gives me a good op committed to quality, and it gives DC a place to test things that the coders haven't caught up to on GreaterMud (which is getting rlogin support, YAY!).

As of cleanup 1/31, EXP-MMUD will be Mod1!! That's right folks, ALIGNMENT QUESTS!! Give us all a chance to stretch our legs a bit.

Sometime during the afternoon of 2/2, WideOpenWest will be at my house to install my new service. The new package will be 8Mbit/s down and 1Mbit/s up. This means we should actually be able to FILL all 128 lines! It should also see an end to the connection issues that we've been having. I will also be installing a second router, which will facilitate the existence of test.deathblowbbs.com - a test server for new edits. Anyone is welcome to use it, but don't get pissed if it crashes constantly or you log on to find everything you worked for gone.

That's it for now, folks. More great things to come from DeathBlow BBS!
