hitachi 53fdx convergence issue [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by AdmiralAcid »

I own a 7 y/o hitachi 53fdx01b and it started having an issue one day.

Below is a graphic showing what's going on.

1) i power up the tv and quickly hit the convergence button. All looks fine.

2) in about 15 seconds the red tube jumps a few inches to the right.

3) in another 10 seconds or so the red line starts to shake and split into two.

4) (not shown) this freaks me out so i turn it off

I have read some posts about replacing IC's. If i do need a kit i found this one http://www.bdent.com/search/part.jsp?partnum=KIT9 . So little experience here, i'm not sure of anything.!

Below are two more images (3mb each) of what i'm looking at.

Damn man when was the last time you cleaned that thing out?

Can of compressed airs only like $2...

Anyways...

1) Is it soldered in? If so I wouldnt bother to fuck with it.

2) make sure you unplug the tv before messing with it (sounds like a given i know)

3) Does the kit come with an IC puller? Make sure you pull straight out.

4) Be careful you dont bend the pins!

5) See recommendation #5

I'm not a TV repair guy or anything.. but I have helped a friend with his projection doing this type of thing as well. He also had to replace an amp board? I think is what it was called...

Anyways, Good luck! I don't think it is that hard of a project as long as its not soldered.

Took two cans of air to get it like that. I can see colors!

It has not had power for a few weeks. I took time today to start pulling out the main board. Those think red wires you see don't like to come off either end. i guess they come off @ the gun but couldnt get it.

It's pretty cool on the inside.

Wait, is this a projection screen TV? If so my brother has serviced and repaired them in the past. If so I'll get him on here.

*EDIT* My brother says try replacing the red CRT board, or maybe the convergence board.

It will be $75 to have it looked at, and over the telephone was told 250+ more to repair. I found working ones on ebay for less if i wanted to take a road trip.

Right now I have disconnected most wires from that huge main board. If i can get those red wires each gun it'll just slide right out. The board is super thin and is mounted on plastic frame. I didnt bend it much.

I wanted to check both sides of the board, and prep to rebuild the IC's and few resisters.

I really don't know what the red CRT board is or how to find one. Guess it's time for a service manual download before i move forward.

Or, does anyone want some parts out of it cheap? I heard it produces x-ray and all sorts of other harmful shit!
