TPS = throttle position sensor.



An oxygen sensor shouldn't cost more than fifty bucks. You'll get two pieces, upstream and downstream. The upstream is more than likely the problem, if it is your oxygen sensor. You can do it yourself, the manual for your neon might be a bit expensive but you should be able to pick one up at any auto parts store along with the oxygen sensor. Or you can just use this website i just ran across... http://www.allpar.com/neon/repairs.html but seriously dude if you haven't already, fuel filter is first to check. If you can assemble walmart or IKEA furniture, you can fix anything in a vehicle with the manual :)

I checked out mitchell and there's no TSB out on this issue.(Technical service bulletin). Just from hearing a description without physically seeing the problem, it sounds like either you're not getting proper fuel, which would be strange if it's running alright. or maybe your cv axles are going. Are you hearing any clicking noises or feeling funny vibrations on the gas pedal? Fuel filter wouldn't be a bad idea but with 30k miles this should not be an issue. I would pull your plugs back out and check them. look to see if their carboned or burned up. check the gap on the plugs and make sure the gap is perfect and inspect the wires and make sure they arent melting or anything. Have you changed out your coil packs yet? that is something that people tend to forget to do. Coil packs arent that expensive, you have two of them. I'm thinking that this could be your problem.

O2 sensor is an easy fix, at least it was for my thunderturd. Found on the intake manifold (I believe), cost me about $12.

I have tranny problems currently, where as I'm driving the trans will slip gears, and I'll have to rev it to get it back into gear. Same as I'm starting to take off, usually have to rev the engine to get in gear and chirp the tires a bit. I have 140K+ miles on this '92 thunderturd tho, so no surprises there. Impossible to mistake a slipping transmission as anything else IMO, however.

EDIT: Sounds to me like a fuel-flow problem, caused either by clogged fuel injection or fuel filter.

for your thunderchicken, go buy a bottle of Lucas tras fix and putter in your trans, after about 200 miles that stuff will haver workin like new. I don't wanna say that the admirel's problem is shortage of fuel because his car is running alright. Once it putters, he lays on the gas and then it's alright, which is telling me that when he does this, it's burning carbon off the plugs, which tells me it's plug related. either from the plugs, wires, or coil packs.
