Btrieve Optimizing [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by syntax53 »

If you get weird btrieve errors like "Handle Table Full" and the only fix is usually to reboot, you may wanna try optimizing some of the btrieve settings. Here are the ones I modify and you may want to as well.

Here's a file you can just import into your reg too. This was exported from a Win2k box, so i don't think it will work on 9x.

just a note, even if you don't get errors, these are good tweaks to do to prevent future errors.

just an FYI ...

---[snip]

Session Start (AIM - syntx53:AimUser): Fri May 09 09:12:39 2003

[09:15] AimUser: is it possible to get nmr to work over a network drive?

[09:15] syntx53: yeah

[09:16] AimUser: how can i do it? when i point it to the net drive i get a bunch of incompatability errors

[09:16] syntx53: are you trying to do it via a UNC path or a mapped drive?

[09:16] AimUser: mapped drive

[09:16] syntx53: should be fine, one sec

[09:17] AimUser: want the exact error i get?

[09:17] syntx53: i just did it

[09:17] syntx53: but whats the error?

[09:17] AimUser: one sec

[09:18] AimUser: form_load, BOPEN, race, error e:\wccrace2.dat Incompatible Mode Error

[09:18] AimUser: if i say continue it goes on to the next file same error

[09:22] syntx53: you sure you have it mapped?

[09:22] syntx53: cause i know btrieve wont work via UNC

[09:22] AimUser: yup.. full permissions.. i can even seethe dats when i open up the settings

[09:23] syntx53: hmm

[09:24] syntx53: are these dats a running bbs is using right now?

[09:24] AimUser: yes..

[09:24] syntx53: is it possible to shut it down to try something?

[09:26] AimUser: sure

[09:26] syntx53: i would import my btrieve reg mods on both machines, reboot them both, and then try again: http://mmb.forumshq.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4075

[09:26] syntx53: you can d/l the zip file on the page and just import it

[09:26] AimUser: okay yeah i just downloaded that before i messaged you i can put those on..

[09:26] syntx53: what im thinking is WG is locking the dats preventing a second application from accessing them

[09:27] AimUser: thats wierd because i can open them with nmr on the other machine.. just eats up cpu time i need for the bbs

[09:28] AimUser: going to reboot.. brb

[09:48] syntx53: nice

[09:49] AimUser: now i can do room item searches without killing the bbs hehe.. appreciate it a lot.. thanks

another note... if you install these tweaks and then reinstall mud/wg afterwards, you should redo this as wg may change them.
