SMTP Errors

Post by kelvanan »

having problems with WG sending e-mails out from the bbs to outside e-mail address's...says invalid ip something like yahoo.com is an invadid IP. how do i set it up to where it will send the e-mails outside of the bbs. trying to get this to work so it will send the auto-validator codes to the new users. they just keep bouncing back to my sysop user name. please help. thanks.

i think you may be the only person i know using WG's email features ... but it sounds to me like you don't have DNS setup right within WG. you need to have the DNS module enabled if it's not. and then under WG General Setup --> DNS Resolver, make sure you have a valid DNS server defined for IPNSVR. What ever server your ISP gives you should work. if you don't know what DNS is ... disable email and walk away.

I agree with syntax, setting up WG email is a metric pain in the ass. Easier to get yourself a small mail daemon program and run it as a seperate entity as opposed to using WG's email server.

"name resolver or some shit" ... ... so it was DNS, and you don't what what it is, do you? DNS = "Domain Name Service" which resolves names to IP addresses.
