Saw something interesting -- the author of the mbbs mud Crossroads of the Elements has produced a quick MajorBBS emulator that can run MBBS module of Crossroads, via telnet, without actually needing majorbbs.
Unfortunately, he hasn't released it and may not be planning to... BBSFiles.com talked to him and said this:
"You can however play this door as Mike has customized a server to run the DLL based game without the need for MajorBBS. Not something he is going to release as I understand it, just something he did over the weekend since he got the 'bug' to do it."
Not sure if it'll emulate all other MBBS games, but in any case this is pretty cool & a step in the right direction... maybe he can be convinced to release it.
The test server is running at: telnet://phoenix2.defeat.org:7777

MBBS emulator in existence?
Re: MBBS emulator in existence?
Nevermind, argh, BBSFiles.com reported that unclearly. The Crossroads author didn't actually do emulation to run MBBS modules. Rather, he just changed the original Crossroads source to replace the MBBS calls, which is a completely different technique & won't allow other MBBS games to be run obviously :(
I'm still surprised that Metro hasn't done something like this for MajorMud... if it was that easy to modify Crossroads for direct telnet support, seems like it wouldn't be much harder for Metro to do likewise for MajorMud...
