2 slave drives at once? [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Post by Xilatl »

Well, after the support given from you guys, I did successfully install a first slave drive to my computer. However, I still have 1 spare HD, and i'm kind of wondering if I can install 2 slaves. If its possible, any takers for an explenation, or a link?

Thanks.

just set the jumpers to slave, and attach it to the same ribbon your cddrive is on, that is if you only have one cd drive.

You cant have 2 slave drives on 1 ribbon. You have atleast 2 IDE cables. That gives you 2 masters and 2 slaves. I dont suggest running HDDs with CD/DVD-ROM drives...it will slow down the HDD. CD/DVD drives run at ata33 and your HDD should be atleast ata100. It will default to the slowest piece of hardware on that ribbon. Put all your HDDs on 1, and all your CD/DVD drives on another.

If they have a cable select option for the jumpers, thats the easiest way..but doesn't always work.

Master is the first connection, and slave is the one at the very end on the ribbon cable.

Hey Brunt, DO NOT become a teacher, you confused the hell out of me. I'm a beginner at this kind of thing, all the ATA shit is really confusing..stick to basics man. But anyways, thanks for the help/support (lol)
