I use the Asus A7V8X mobo ATM. I plan on either moving to the Nforce3 chipset, or the new KT600 chipset.



If you want the best bang for your buck, AMD is the way to go ;)

I spent $40 on a heatsink, and $0 on a 160cfm blower ;)

Took a $50 cpu from 1.4ghz(1600+) to a 1.9ghz(2400+?) and a 1.47ghz(1700+) to a 2.4ghz(3200+)! and that cpu only cost me $70. $40 for a heatsink is steep, but you can use it on the socket for as long as you want :)



I have a 160 SATA, plan on getting another one here soon..so I can run them in RAID.

I used overclockers.com come for cooling suggestions on my duron 1.2 which is sitting at 1.86 with a copper volcano 8 cooler ($30 cdn) I'll prolly transfer the volcano onto the new cpu, which will prolly be a 2800+. As for video I'm looking at Radeon, I've gone through too many NVidia GF's(2xGF2's&4's in just under 3years) and so I'm not too impressed with them. BUt I dont really want to spend the entire $500 on a Radeon :D, but I've seen a few up here in around $75/$100 range.



As for tower, space isn't an issue, I have a 27" tower with a 400 watt p/s, I currently have a 16x dvd, and a 32x10x40 cdrw, a 40 & 20gb hds, gonna toss the 20 into a cheap case with current mobo and video card for a cousin.



How much is 512 ddr 2700 in the US, I can get it for $105 cdn here in Vancouver.

that should be a nice setup syn. it should do decent if ya decide to overclock it. or it will run rock solid at stock speeds.

My main play toy is a intel 2.4ghz 800mhz fsb chip in a p4c800-e dlx with 512mb pc4000 ddr 500 ram and a wd raptor 10k rpm hard drive and its a beast of a gaming machine

Hey Blunt, has Asus fixed the chip burning problem, I've had a few clients, that have had some major problems with Asus, for a couple of years, I wasn't terribly impressed with them

i havn't had any trouble with them and i have lots of them 2 a7n8x's a p4p800 dlx and a p4c800-e dlx. All run great

check out the case i got, it's pretty hot. 400w power supply and 4 case fans for only $40.

$130 but well worth it for the "cooler's wet dream". 7 smart case fans included in this full tower... can't wait to get it ;)
