Socket Error 10106 (server port 79) Unknown Error
i get this error message when i try starting my bbs when my computer is connected to my network, when it's not connected to the network everthing runs fine, i also can't get out when i'm connected to the network(my computer is the host for the network). i'm not sure what's going on, my computer will act like it's connected to the net, however, when i try to get out within a browser i receive the "page not found" message, my messengers donot work either. the computers within the network are seing each other and communicating just fine, it's only trying to get out onto the net, or starting worldgroup when things get stupid, i maybe just stupid. sorry if this is confusing, it's late, i'm tire, and i'm cold.....
thanks
Kain

did you just recently hook up the network?
Re: Socket Error 10106 (server port 79) Unknown Error
no firewall running, i think it's just that i'm using microcrap XP pro, i've disabled my firewall, and the firewall within windows, to no avail it still does not work, i've totally had to disconnect from the network to get anything to work, i have no hardware conflict either, that i have checked, i'm not real sure what the deal is

sort of, i've had it together with win98 on one system and win200 on another, never had them together with XP, this was my first go at that

-when you "connect it to your network," how is it supposed to get out to the internet? do you have a router setup? are you using internet connection sharing?
-how are the machines on the "network" getting their IP addresses? do you have something for a dhcp server? are you assigning them all manually?

Regarding your error message when starting WG: Port 79 is the Finger service. It's possible that you have a server conflict (ie, WG is trying to run a Finger server and another program on your network also is trying to run a Finger server)
