Nobody should have bid even once until the end of the auction. You are just driving the price up every time you bid. When it's within 2 minutes of the end of the auction, you put a bid in for the highest you will pay. When the auction ends, you pay the last incremented bid plus one increment. So if it started at $100, and the bid incremented to $150, and you put a price on $215, but the last increment at the end of the auction was $155, you pay $157.50.
