First of all, we are a democratic people thriving within the confines of a constitutional republic. Do the words, "we the people, for the people, by the people" ring a bell? -- I thought so.



Secondly, our diversity is proof alone that we are a nation of equality. We have taken DRASTIC measures to insure EVERY citizen has the right to speak freely & worship freely as he/she sees fit. That in itself is something unique about the United States of America.



Finally, you mentioned that every "major" empire in the world has fallen because of arrogance, ignorance & stupidity, and that America was doomed to meet the same fate. I disagree. The biggest difference between the United States & the empires of old is the fact that all of them were totalitarian dictatorships that wished to expand their terrorities by waging war and enslaving others with an absolute, oppressive hand.



America, on the other hand, achieved greatness by promoting democracy and spreading freedom throughout the world -- waging war only when necessary and only after diplomatic measures were exhausted. All the while maintaining its democratic integrity.



We are the world's first-and-only democratic super-power.



The empires of Napoleon, Stalin, Mussolini, & Hitler will always be dwarfed in comparison to the greatness & uniqueness of America.

We're not a government of and by the people when a president is in office that isn't popularly elected. It's the second or third time now it's happened. The empires I'm referring to are the Romans and the British. You're really bad on your history. totalitarians...Nope, Britain was a monarchy and Rome was a form of republic, closer to an aristocracy.

The British empire was the perfect example totalitarianism at its worst. The monarchy inherited the throne. The British people did not get to elect the king, nor did he fight or campaign to gain power. Instead he was merely a child of privilege, born into the ruling family.



The Roman senate was nothing more than puppets of the ruling Caesar, and his rule was absolute.

Okay for all of you who dont favor war in Iraq please explain this to me.. WHY did we find about three THOUSAND chemical suits in a hospital. I cant BELIEVE Iraq would be that stupid to think wed used anything against them

WTF does that have to do with anything? I garuntee you Iraq isn't the only country with chemical warfare, do you think we should go knock on everyone elses door too? You just made a horrible point.



If anything chemical is used, we use nukes. That's a given, that'll happen regardless. You don't think we know Saddam plans to use chemical weapons? His soldiers are running around with gas masks and chemical first-aid kits.



Sending in troops was dumb. We should have bombed them like there was no tomorrow, and let there be just that. No tomorrow for Iraq.

True, but they are the ONLY country that has actually USED them on their own people.



They use chemical we use nukes? No, I don't think so. But it would definately prove that the UN security council was as ignorant as we thought.



All in all, this is a pointless disscusion as "we" as in you and I and Americans in general have only a backseat at this time and can only watch the horror as the war unfolds. Only history will be able to look at this with any objectivity, but as in the case of most history, the winner writes it. I have no doubts as to who that winner will be.



Bitch, whine, protest, cry, sniffle, agree, disagree, eat cheese, sniff dog butts, or whatever. NOTHING you say or do will really make much of a difference now will it?



Bash away folks, but we live here, we ARE who the world looks to to solve MOST if not all problems. We are the UN, because without US there would be no force they could wield with any power that could accomplish the tasks that they set.



I'm proud to be an American, not because I agreed with everything that our government does or says, but because I live in a place where I am free to move, do, say, and live as I want. There arn't many Iraqi's that have the same options.



I think we can all agree on one thing, Saddam is not a nice person, you woulnt want your sister to marry him, you wouldnt want to disagree with him on policy, and you wouldnt want him to stay for diner.
