Look back at most games with human vs computer and your see that the player generally leaves the standard path.
The computer LOVES to just follow the openings by the book and gets confused when you dont

I'm kinda partial to the dragon variation of the sicilian when playing black. The finachetto on the queen's side will generally yield a rook against less experienced players and against more experienced players it will usually keep that side a little easier to attack. When I play white, I generally open queen's gambit and run right into offensive mode.

A lot of people go for this in tournament games, and while this mate happens very rarely (never in tournaments), against less experienced players, you can usually make some nasty forks to win a rook for yourself if you bring a knight in the mix...
