How the HELL do you make money in this game? I am killing all sorts of monsters but nothing drops money..
A little help would be appreciated.

depends on what you kill. Some monsters don't drop anything. At low levels, do like the orcs. Otherwise, you can do like ogres out in the marsh, decent exp and they drop $$, or, if you can get past the green dragon, then infernal keep is the place for $$ til you can get out to cursed village. Most bosses also drop $$, so you can jump around and kill them, get some quests done, and make some money.

The bad part is I really have no idea where I am going or what I am supposed to do, I got to level 4 today with my mage until I ran out of monster fights :( . I found an abomination along the way and managed to kill it and now i have a skull key but damned if I know where to use it. The orcs seem decent enough but the cockatrices give sweet exp. I got another alignment change to the good side again today and the green dragon managed to bend me over and have his way with me in about 2 rounds... That was not pleasant...

Yepyep, definitely hit up the DoorMUD web site for lots of game info. As for where to get gold, depends... you may notice there's multiple areas designed for any given level range; usually one of there's one that is better exp but less gold, and one that is slightly less exp but more gold.
In any case most areas only give around 20 to 30 gold in about 35 MFs... it may not seem like much gold but it adds up; the store items are priced accordingly, as long as you're not losing much gold to dying you should be okay.

cursed village pwns for $$, also the dragons is where i'm gettin $$ now, in my 35 MF i made 80 gold =\
but at lower levels basically i say conserve money as much as possible and fight ogres, that's what i did. it takes awhile for the 2 of them in the marsh to regen, but it's not that bad =\
