Go Reckless! I'll post this here for everyone else who seems to have a problem with remembering to compile their updates.

Go into FILE (or F2), Settings, and check the box that says AutoCompile Update on exit. So much easier.

That is the single most overlooked thing in the troubleshooting process. I think Aragon needs to put that on the front page of the forums.

1. No spamming

Nobody likes spammers. What constitutes as spam is up to MMB Administrators & Moderators.

2. No flaming or inconsiderate rudeness

This will not be tolerated. Many users have problems differentiating between trash talk while in MajorMud and being considerate of other users when posting on a forum. Furthermore, many people seem to suffer from I-am-God Syndrome. You are not God and you are definitely not better than everyone. If you are having problems realizing that, we will be glad to ban you until you figure it out.

3. Keep profanity to a minimum

This is a hard one to judge. Use common sense or I will change this rule to "No profanity what-so-ever." If it's ok...

4. COMPILE UPDATE

Before submitting a question to the NMR support section, please try compiling an update to see if that doesn't clear up your problem.

:D [/rant]

I bet Aragon does it too, cuz it's such an awesome idea! ;)

what is your setup?

do you do offline edits and edit the dats that the board works off of?

... or do you edit while the board is running?

... or do you edit them in a different directory and then compile an update and copy the update file over?

second question, when you start the bbs up, are you waiting for an "automatic database update complete" (NOT "MajorMUD Initialized") message?

really the only reason why you would see a problem like this is if your update file hasn't completely been run through and/or if the monsters that were in the realm before you applied the exp changes weren't taken out during the offiline recovery. the way it works is mud pulls a monster from the wccknms2.dat (the one you edit) and writes them to the wccacms2.dat (active monsters). so if it pulls a monster and puts it into the realm before the exp changes have occured, it will still have the old exp.

alot of times the first kill of certain monsters will give normal exp as well. then every one after that is changed.

See that little multiplier field Xeeg? double that instead of doubling the exp.

This sounds similar to what happened right after we installed K(skipped J). A majority of the monsters that were alive before K was installed had insane exp. Here's why: When a monster becomes regens, it copies all the data for that monster from the known monster database to the active monster database. So what happens is, it reads that data from there when it gives you the exp, not from the database you edited. In the case of our update to K, the new multiplier field was actually a field that already existed(monster level) that was converted to use for the multiplier. For the monsters that already existed, the new code read the old data(monster level) and multiplied the exp by that when it gave the exp to the users. Then when the monsters respawned, they were normal. Try killing those monsters a second time after making the updates.
