Props to ya hobo for becomming a better person under your given circumstances. Ita hard to grow up around haters off all types but at least you didnt come out of it wanting to spear-head people for their nationality or racial backgrounds.

I agree with Invis..props to Hobo

I myself grew up feeling the brunt of prejudices, mine wasn't from skin color, but nationality. I grew up in the UK, mostly, and being the only American kid in school was pretty tough. Many of the bullies targetted me for that one simple fact. I would stand my ground, most of the time, but after a while they started resorting to guerilla tactics and would catch me offguard to give me a beat-down.

Even then, I've never gone done..To me, that is my triumph over them. I won't ever let hate put me down, whether mentally, or physically, I won't let it.

Even after all that happened to me growing up in England, I still would love to move back there to live.

I hope Skrew sees this and smartens up, it's not worth it... trust me.. I still have nightmares, and it kills me to think that there are so many intelligent people acting so fucking stupid.. Take that hate and turn it into something else to better your life instead of bringing yourself down..

-This is Platinum..

What's up people? Haven't been here in a while..so I'll keep this sweet.

I read the first post of this thread today, and was kind of shocked. I probably would have handled said situation a little better today, but I still feel the same way. When I'm around anyone and I know or just have a feeling they're racist, even if they don't 'publicize' it, I just get this feeling like, 'Damn you, get the hell away from me.' I am prejudiced against people who are racist..I can't help it. It's just how I grew up and the things I was tought. My dad used to be a little racist, but my sister and I got it out of him.

Glad this thread sparked some conversations though..until next time I check MMB, lates.

Wow. Wowowow. This stirred up the hornets nest. I'd just like to add my three cents. I don't want to go over old ground, so here's something new to ponder.

I'm an anthropology major (going into archaeology, but still) and for the love of "Bob" I just don't get why people think they're all that different from eachother. The idea of "races" among humans is a myth--one that should have disappeared long ago. I can understand hating a group of people for whatever reason (real or imagined). It happens. Its a common human behavior. But on the basis of race? I think the term you folks are looking for is "ethnicity." Ethnicity is the physical, cultural, and linguistic properties of a group. Often religion and shared history are thrown in there. I'm not nitpicking here; there is a real difference. Our species has no races--we might have at one point in our distant past, but thats up for debate. You've probably heard of them--you know, the Neanderthals? Dogs have races. Birds have races. We don't.

If you're going lump people together for the purpose of hating, then please use the correct terminology. Our species has one race: sapiens.

yeah, too bad that's nullified by the fact that the entire world, except you anthropoligists, uses the word "race."

Khaled - where I believe your point is valid, the usage of "Race" and "Racism" was made common because I think it's just plain simpler to say than ethnicity or ethnicism... if you look into history books you'll notice they don't use the term ethnicity, they use race (90% of the time).. so on an anthropologist's level, race may not be correct, but has been driven into our skulls by countless teachers and text books.. I doubt I'll change my wording just by your post, but thanks for the clarification. ;)
