Sicko [Archive] - ForumsHQ

I love Michael Moore movies. Yes, he manipulates emotions, and stretches the truth to fit his agenda, but he is so sincere. You can tell he really feels for the people in his movies and wants to help. "Sicko" is his latest, about the insurance and medical care in the US vs other western civilizations like Canada, France and the UK. He paints a very rosy picture of socialized medicine, that seems too good to be true.

I actually liked this movie better than his others. I worked in insurance for 7 years. The first five yrs were for a non-profit insurance company. We covered almost everything on every claim. In fact the only thing we didn't cover was treatment for impotence or baldness. If the company spent more than was projected for the year in claims, then the following year, every member got a premium increase. There were very few complaints because the member knew they would have their medical and prescription bills covered. I had to leave that job, and stupidly went to work for a privately owned for profit HMO. After two years of milking people out of premiums, and denying claim after claim, I had to walk. My conscience couldn't take it any longer. I was unemployed for several months, because the only companies interested in me were insurance companies. I finally got a job as a personal assistant to an investment banker, and I will never work for an insurance company again.

I don't want to talk too much about the movie, because I don't want to spoil it, but there is a part in the movie about Cuba that makes me pretty sad about the shape of our country's health care system.

Sicko is a great movie. See it!

You don't have to give MM money to see his move. Pirate it, like we did.

MM was very cool about it being leaked online. His reps wanted to sue the people who leaked it, but MM said no, more people will see this way, and that is what he wants.

I know to take everything he puts out with a grain of salt, because he is a masterful manipulator, but I promise you, it is worth a viewing. It is very good.
