Just Bought a 65 Corvair [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Found a fantastic deal on this car and couldn't pass it up. It's got the flat six with 4 speed trans. The trans is out of a 66 so it's got the vette innards. Has the dual single barrel carb setup. Carbs need rebuild, needs balljoints and minor rust repair. Interior needs bench upholstered, and door skins.

looks real nice from the outside. how much?It's got the other Ralley wheel in the trunk. It'll need a new tire. The wheels are only 13's, so i can get good tires for dirt cheap ($30-$40 ea). I don't think the bench seat is stock though. All of the research i've done shows all the models with buckets, so i'm wondering what's up with that. I can't tell if it's a monza` or corsa or 500 series.

Delivery of the car will be Tuesday morning. I'll know alot more about it then.

It runs and drives. Guy can only start it by spraying the carbs with starter fluid, I'll see what i can do. These things were made to take on the 911's of that era and apparentely did so quite well. I can't wait till it gets warm enough to take the thing out properly for a spin, open it up and see what it's got. not bad for 700 bones.

Pantharen, thankyou very very much for that info. i'm serious. I was stressing the bench seat not knowing where it came from. I have been unable to find another corvair with a bench. You sayin that your rents had one with a bench tells me that yes, they did indeed make some with the bench. Must have been an option.

We got the garage cleared out and pushed the neon into it so we can take care of the leaky cam seal on Sunday in hopes to have it done and gone by Tuesday when the Corvair gets delivered. so damn excited.

i had on, a 63 when i was in the air force in tuscon, az. it made a great dune buggy, ran forever, and i sold it for what i paid for it 2 years later, when i came home to texas. a friend has a 65 spider that i work on. rebuilt the carbs on it but had problems finding the clips for the heat riser on choke. those pancake 6's are magnificent.

yeah, i don't know a ton about those flat six motors, but i've been reading up alot on em. From what i've read, they are very very tough and well built. I've read about a bunch of guys saying that Corvairs are great for mud,snow,and sand. The metal they used on the bodies is tough as well. I'm hoping for this Corvair to be a spyder, but not sure yet. It's missing an emblem or two. I'll probably have to run the numbers to know for sure. Almost every i've talked to about this car either used to have one, or knows someone who did and I haven't heard any bad words about em. I just can't freakin wait to hear that dual exhaust sing. Rebuilding two single barrel carbs will be fun. Tuning only two sure beats tuning four. Thank Jeebus it doesn't have the quad carb setup..:bravo:
