If your running in a 64bit environment (i.e. 64 bit windows) then no, it wont work. All you have to do for a quick fix is open the realmlist.wtf and change it from us.worldofwarcraft.com to wowtradewinds.dyndns.org and reload the game. It should work after that.

i have used the launcher on another computer of the same make and model and the launcher works fine. how would i know if i am using a 64 bit model

Click on your Start>Settings>Control Panel button. Find the Icon for System and double click and see what it says.
