Someone managed to sneak a peek at the Vole's internal beta version 2 of Windows 53xx informed us that, even while idling, Vista eats as much as 800Mb of system memory.

That's fucking stupid. XP is already a resource hog. Why can't they implement a function for gamers to strip the OS down to its core and just run a limited amount of applications/services, taking up less ram than Windows 98 would. Eating up 800MB of memory is fine if you have a gig and you're idling listening to music and browsing the web or playing Mud. Eating up 800MB of memory isn't fine if you have a gig and you're trying to play a game like WoW or something more memory-intensive.

Maybe they are just trying to push the sales of new computers.
What better way than make the entire OS a resource hog.

microsoft isn't selling new computers, what do they care? they probably make more off of single store bought copies instead of OEM pre-loads too.

Microsoft may not be directly selling computers but that doesnt mean they dont own shares in HP etc...
If they can own shares in Apple AND have a spot on the board, why cant they own shares in other computer companies.

I have it running on my 2.8gh p4 laptop. 512ram and not real graphics card. I cannot use the windows new skin. The operating system runs ok. It is slower then XP for sure. Because of this i'm not sure if it was worth it at this time. It's not real main stream yet, and i could really use a memory upgrade.
I have yet to run into any issues with the games and applications i run. Office '07, hoyle '07, romz, photoshops, quickbooks, etc.

Unless they can get Vista to run as smooth as XP then screw Vista. Weve tested it on several different machines at work to see if we want to give it to employees and right now we dont. They have alot of work to do on Vista to convince us to change.

I installed it on my home computer and unfortunately my nvidia 7800GT requires special settings in order to get it to NOT crash after 15 mins of game play... Seems only NGOHQ is the only type of driver that offers this 'special' setting.. and they dont have compatible vista drivers.. SOO.. its back to XP for me...
