But that is the point, is it not? This *isn't* mud... this is ragnarok. This *isn't* everquest... this is no other game but Ragnarok. If we change that, we might as well change the name of the game. You could call it Muddied Ragnarok. I know you can still choose to be human, but I think it ruins it. The point of it is to play "yourself." Thats why you can get married, have kids... you know the whole shabang... it just has a touch of fantasy to it. There are plenty mud like games out there, why do we have to change this one to be like them?
Nikki did you even read my post, better question, DID you understand my post?
Ragnarok is MUD.
Not to be Rude Nikki, but You have said "I haven't play MUD" So in reality How the hell would you know what Ragnarok is? You just barely know what a MMORPG is.
Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game got their start DIRECTLY from MUD. Just like the ENTIRE internet started at one time as TEXT ONLY. MMORPG is just the next step in evolution. So being that it is EVOLUTION the races should migrate with it.
A MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) is an online computer role-playing game in which a large number of players interact with one another in a virtual world. As in all RPGs, players assume the role of a character (traditionally in a fantasy setting) and take control over most of that character's actions. MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player RPGs by the game's persistent world, usually hosted by the game's publisher, which continues to exist and evolve while the player is away from the game. This results in a gameworld which is far more dynamic, diverse, and realistic than those of other games.
MMORPGs are immensely popular, with several commercial games reporting millions of subscribers. South Korea boasts the highest subscription numbers, with millions of users registered with the more popular games; see list of MMORPGs for a list of the most prominent MMORPGs.
This article is about a type of online computer game. For other uses of the word "mud," see mud
In computer gaming, a MUD (multi-user dungeon, dimension, or sometimes domain) is a multi-player computer game that combines elements of role-playing games, hack and slash style computer games, and social instant messaging chat rooms. Typically running on a bulletin board system or Internet server, the game is usually text driven, where players read descriptions of rooms, objects, events, other characters, and computer-controlled creatures or non-player characters (NPCs) in a virtual world. They may interact with each other and the surroundings by typing commands that resemble a natural language, usually English.
Traditional MUDs implement a fantasy world populated by elves, goblins, and other mythical beings with players being able to take on any number of classes, including warriors, mages, priests, thieves, druids, etc. The object of the game is to slay monsters, explore a world rich in fantasy and with adventure, and to complete quests. MUDs are typically fashioned around the dice rolling rules of the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) series of games.
MUDs typically have a fantasy setting, while others are set in science fiction-based universe. Still others, especially those which are based on MOOs, are used in distance education or to allow for virtual conferences. MUDs have also attracted the interest of academic scholars from many fields, including communications, sociology, law, and synthetic economies.
Most MUDs are run as hobbies and are free to players; some may accept donations or allow players to "purchase" in-game items

Ummm panth why do you think I don't know anything about games. I used to play telearena like 11-12 years ago. I played quite a bit with invisi actually. He at the time said I should try mud.... but I didn't really feel like it. I know what text based games are dear. I have played them. And I know what MMORPG is... I used to play Earth&Beyond for about 8-9 months during the last months of my pregnancy and when my daughter was just born. So hey, I have played both MMORPG's and text based games.
Not to be rude Panth... but just because im not a mudder doesn't mean I don't understand what the heck it is. You have to remember.. I have been using computers since I was able to push buttons. My dad built a robot when I was two years old... he took me to see the computers at GE when I was 4 years old... you know the computers that were like 6 feet tall 5 feet wide. I used to use a unix based text browser to go on the internet. Hell I used to order cd's online through a telnet bbs type based service.
You see, one of my biggest pet peeves is peolple assuming I am uneducated or lack knowledge when it comes to computers. I will readily admit I have never played mud, hell I will admit I suck with programming and networking. They are NOT my strong points with computers. But I DO know what text games are... I DO know what MMORPG's are. I have played both kinds. But I am not a "gamer", and never will be. It isn't in my blood. I am involved in RO because 1) I like helping people 2) I like doing research 3) i like the complexity of it. You don't have to have gaming in your blood to be an intelligent enough person to understand gaming constructs.
So thanks panth for attacking me personally... I didn't know you have to meet some kind of standard in order to state your opinion on games. I didn't realize that you have to be a dedicated mudder in order to understand, use, and state an opinion on RO. Sorry my bad.

Funny how most conservatives, religious folk, the media, beaurocrats, and others all claim games are bad because people are escaping reality when they play. I don't play myself, personally. Hell, I like to choose females on my rpg's so at least I have something to look at, even if it's pixelated.
I'm not saying I disagree with you Isla, but the foundation for your argument is kind of weak, tbh.
I wasn't implying that you are trying to escape reality. But in RO you are not supposed to *choose* what sex you want to be... you are suposed to choose the gender you are. I have researched a lot on RO I have spent countless hours reading things about it. This was a strong point made by the creaters... that you choose the gender you are.. not the gender who you would like to play. I guess I am protective of preserving the integrity of the game because it isn't just like mud or telearea or neverwinternights... I like it just the way it is. Is that so wrong? Again I didn't realize I was making an argument... I thought I was merely stating my opinion. Silly me.

Ok people were getting off topic here. Keep it on the original topic or move it to a new thread. This is getting a little out of hand. Its about possibly customizing an MMORPG not about someones experience in general RPG's.

I will say this though. If the majority of the users want to edit it so you have races within classes, then I think we should. I think my opinion and those of anyone else that plays RO is valid. If you play the game, let everyone know what you want. I vote no. Ghal votes yes, Tox votes yes. Zan and Ari seem to be some where in the middle.
So...
1 vote no
2 votes yes
2 votes maybe

As for the new races, HELL YEAH!
Re: RO Editing Idea: Races [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Don't count me as voting, I couldn't care less.
Re: RO Editing Idea: Races [Archive] - ForumsHQ
I feel we should work on getting all the bugs fixed first before we decide on stupid stuff like this. Skins and whatnot can come later, we need to make sure the servers working fine and everythings updated and people can install rag okay and get english wording with everything.
Re: RO Editing Idea: Races [Archive] - ForumsHQ
I just installed the kRO and it seems to be working just fine for me.
Re: RO Editing Idea: Races [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Im just throwing up options. Do I care if it is actually implimented? no.. not really. But I do like to get the idea juices flowing in people. Hell getting races into the game might not even be possible for all we know.
Do I think its a good idea? Yes I do. Why? ... Why not?
I am Isla. I am a girl... and I have always considered being a stripper... so that is why I am going for dancer... it fits me. I am not a dancing halfling.
If your Isla, a girl, and dont want to be halfling, then go human.... Its that easy.
If your wanted to play 'base ragnarok' then I can give you a list of 200 servers to play on that have no originality about it. If you want something different, then lets do that. Then at least there will be a reason to play on our server other than 200 others.
