Microsoft: It’s official, 8 different flavors of Windows Vista [Archive] - ForumsHQ

Because choices are good? Or because there would be more money to be milked? Perhaps the victims of having 8 different flavors of Windows Vista are the software vendors, who would have to explain the differences between each edition to their customers.

Here’s a quick rundown of one of the 8 product editions:

Windows Starter 2007 - This edition does not include the Aero graphical user interface, hence it’s not Vista-branded. And there’s no 64-bit edition, no networking, no Fast User Switching, no DVD Authoring, no gaming common controller support, and no image editing with enhanced touchup, and only three applications/windows are allowed to run simultaneously. Good only for really basic users with low budgets.

Who the hell now-a-days doesnt use networking? This is going to be a shitstorm with all the different versions of vista they are loading, itll be 8 times the viruses! I can see all software vendors switching to the mac OS now because its stable and theres only 1 of them.

its not really that different from now you have

Xp home

Xp Pro with 64 bit versions of both

Isnt there like 4 flavors of server?

and in india or some third world country isnt there already an xp starter kit and two of these versions are nothing more then the base version without media player bundled because of a court ruling so its not as drastic as it looks
