Consoles: Unreal Tournament 2007 to be PS3 launch title [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Re: Consoles: Unreal Tournament 2007 to be PS3 launch title [Archive] - ForumsHQ
I was all "whoop-de-doo" until I actually did some reading and found out that keyboard & mouse will likely come standard with ps3. Had no clue, and now I'm intrigued.
This system _should_ blow the doors off x360, though I'm not sure it will as far as sales go(4? 5? $600? ouch). I mean, after all is said and done you have a software giant running against a hardware giant. Who do you think should win on paper?

as far as I've heard, PS3 will sell at $399 like the 360. This is just speculation though. It is also going to be much more powerful than the 360. In this war, you really don't have a software giant running against a hardware giant - Sony has both markets covered. Sony has always had more software developers (Xbox never really took off in Japan, whereas Sony held the market solid next to Nintendo). They're also going to have a much faster system. The only thing Sony needs to watch out for is the fact that Microsoft is releasing Bungie's Halo 3 on the same day that PS3 launches. After all the hullabaloo dies down, I think PS3 will come out on top.
If a keyboard and a mouse come standard with the PS3, I'll actually be pissed. I thought MS made the Xbox entirely too much like a PC... if Sony integrates even more standard peripherals, you might as well just buy a computer. If they keyboard and mouse are extras, then I will understand, and I'll probably buy them, this is just a personal opinion of consoles.

I understand your opinion, but AFAIK Sony's been flaunting this machine as a media center. I mean, it has 7 usb ports, bluetooth capabilities(standard controller is wireless bluetooth), removable hard drive(that they plan on ramping up in size as time goes on), and more I'm sure is relevant but I can't pull from the top of my head.
I like the keyboard/mouse standard, personally. It opens up more people to the MMO and shooter genre's, and I've read that they're requiring that every game be first compatible with a controller, so you won't be required to use the periphrials at all if you don't want to. It also won't require people to buy the extra stuff for that one or two games they need it for, even though that's all they'll likely use it for anyways.
I do wonder what it will due for the online community. One thing Sony's been lacking is a presence like XBox Live. This may allow things such as chat rooms/windows for people without mic's, or who are waiting/trying to find an opponent for a game, etc. etc.
Excellent point about Sony's software business. I really hadn't thought much beyond licensing fee's when I was considering the cost, but they can make money back on their first-party games as well (and they do make a ton, don't they?).
