So you should have said ignore Lyki's, snicker. This type of poll on what would make the best bbs has been done more times than a vietnamese prostitute. There are a lot of key elements that would make a great bbs, but with the limits to coding that majormud has, it makes it impossible to do it all.
1. Make PvP worthwhile past level 40 (But see, not everyone likes PvP...)
2. Create a realm in which people would much rather gain their experience by hand than by scripting (Unitryiampi does a very nice job of this, but the lack of number 1 makes it not fit the "perfect" mold.) In accomplishing this, create an abundant amount of new areas, bosses, and items for people to work for. Make bosses almost impossible to solo, and at the level they are soloable, make that area level restricted. This creates a live realm in which people work together to get everything, and take less time to see what they can/cannot solo. Also new race/classes that are balanced with the rest (new spellcasting classes are always nice).
3. I say make sure you have limited items, but not 1x. In a huge realm (I think this is what you are striving for??), 1x limiteds are a little ridiculous. But unlimited items makes for a realm of people with the most uber equipment, which makes it pretty mundane.
4. The less rules, the better. Once again, this a hugely argued idea, but having a realm which makes you watch what you say or limits the things you can do (no dp raiding, non PvP gang, etc.) makes for an assload of controversy, creating more headaches for you.
5. Have a damn good connection, preferably T1 or so, so lag is almost nill. No bbs on the World Wide Web will ever be as lagfree as regular dial-up, but with the right connection and the proper firewalls, it can be close enough. Also, make sure you have the time and patience to mantain a bbs for much longer than a few months, which most bbses are. Look at bbses such as Lunar and Boink (sorry for the other stable bbses, I don't really play any bbses right now, and those are the two I hear a lot about), they have become staples in the Majormud community for longeveity. This is the reputation you need to have.
6. Put the damn cave bear in the pyramid. A cave bear needs to be around a climate with no water, sand, and ridiculously hot climates. No bbs has accomplished this, and they should.
So there you have it. Not everyone will agree with what I've said, especially number 1 and 4. But then again, I'm much smarter and cooler than them, so listen to me.

I'm interested in the factual basis surrounding that comment as well.

I like a board where exp is around 2 and boss just a little higher then that. That way you can still script but the people who play at the keys will gain more then those that just script all the time.

Personally I like to solo things or go around with one other person. I hate being in big groups, especially with morons. If a realm doesn't have shit I can do that in, I'm not gonna be there. I like Untryiampi because I can solo a good bit of shit during the day and have a good time without having to rely on other people.

Arthmis: I agree fully with boss exp being slightly higher than normal exp, but I'd put monster at 3 and boss at 5x.
Speed: There are quite a bit of morons when it comes to boss kills, but if group boss kills were the only way to get the great exp and better items, people would have to learn how, or be left behind. I understand during work hours there are very few people live, but then again, this is why a "perfect" bbs cannot be created. I just like having very difficult bosses that take a group of people, primarily because this brings more people to keys at one time and earns the right to carry more exp than just regular scripting.
InvisiGod: I would be banned if I ever explained in detail my obsession with the cave bear. Let's just say my ideal job would be a forest ranger in a bear pen, with no one watching. But the pen was actually a cave, so they weren't just gay bears, they were cool cave bears.
Raiden: No one ever said anything I ever said had any factual basis (or made any sense, for that matter).

My comment was pertaining to point #6 about the cave bear. Everything else made plenty of sense.

Arthmis: I agree also, anyway that a board is set up where the more you play at keys the further you can get is good in my book. Like my last board if I stopped scripting to go boss hunting I would fall behind on the top ten list and have to script my way back up. That SUCKED!

Re: What are people looking for in an editted board these days? [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Things i like to see in a mud.
1. Friendly Op's and Staff.
Its fucking annoying when the first thing you see or hear is "OH great a new (Insert class here)" and its a mudop sayin it.
2. Unlimited Items.
I know to a certin point it "annoys" people to have unlimited items but i think its rather nice not having to worry "Well sence i joined what person/gang is going to be hoarding the stuff i need and tellin everyone who asks to fuck off its thiers though no one can/wants to use it". Unlimited items solves that... or a no hoarding rule.
3. Exp
I dont realy care about exp. I'll get there one way or another so yeah.
4. New Area's.
Great idea here, new areas but if you want users to go to them you gotta put out path files for them. THough this does help alieviate the eventual "This area BELONGS to me, fuck off or i'll room stack something and kill you" arguments (Which is pretty petty shit, your still getting exp, Stop whining and put up with it)
5. PVP.
I bloody hate PVP but others love it so perhaps a special PVPing place not unlike the arena should be set up execpt deaths count and all that.
