Dragondawn... I just read you are trying to get a wireless card so you can connect to your daughters wireless router for your board. You should not even attempt to run a board on a wireless connection. Single user on wireless = OK. Two or Three users sharing a wireless connection = Bareable. Two people using wireless connection + 20 connections from the outside world drawing more load than 10 people would on the inside = horrible horrible lag death.
Re: RE: White Dragon BBS + Wireless [Archive] - ForumsHQ
Most wireless routers have wired ports you can connect to, so I suggest putting the server near the wireless router and hardwiring it. Wireless is great, but, not for running any type of server with outside connections.

We run using wireless. We run on a cable modem with wireless going to the bbs computer in the basement and so far we have no problems.

That is EXTREMELY surprising that your users haven't complained. Or maybe they just deal with it. Do you have PVP on your board? I would think it would severely hinder PVP performance. I notice lag when I use my laptop's wireless and telnet somewhere, let alone 20+ people coming in from the outside.

I run my board on a network with a wireless router, but the router is passworded and the board is hardwired to the router (with about 6' of cable because it's about 3' away from the router).. the wireless part goes to the one other computer in the house that does not really need a hellacious internet connection, but with the relative closeness of the router to the wireless computer (it's just through a few walls and about 15' away) the wireless computer usually has 4 of the 5 bars for connection strength and that computer does fairly well still with large downloads and whatnot. The router and the wireless card in the other computer are both 1.11g or whatever it is.

To both drago and DD: hardwiring it to the router via the built-in hub/switch is perfectly acceptable. you wont be adding any lag doing it that way (unless it's a hub instead of a switch in which case collisions could cause a bit of lag).
